Krux
So I was planting some corals in my efforts to remove frag racks from my tank, and I remembered that one of the aspects I like most about smooth skin corals (this happens with all of them I guess, but more pronounced with these) is how drastically different they can look from the side and the top. I don't know about physics and light refraction, but it can be pretty cool. I took photos of the two pieces I am watching grow by the week from both the front and the top to illustrate! Maybe I am a bit of a nerd, but I think its pretty frigging cool! I had another piece of Ari's Avalanche come in today along with a Greg's Unicorn, this is my third Ari and I am hoping to get this one to take! Will give it a while before showing it off as I have had exceedingly bad luck with it so far. I also have a TGC Bugatti and a DFS Pink Panther (the granulosa model not the tenuis) that are healing for a couple weeks before shipping - super excited about both of those as they have been on my list for several years Thanks for looking Edited October 18 by Krux
Krux
Added in a few babies today, fingers crossed. Seller shipped on the wrong day and nobody was home to receive them, so they got a little cold waiting on the porch until I got off work. i have polyps on all but one frag, not terrible post dip and coming in at 63 degrees! The frag of the far left is very stressed which is a bummer as that is the piece I initiated this order to get…. DFS Pink Panther that has taken me a couple years to track down. Krux
@obrien.david.j Just ran a calculation as the tank is looking pretty good and wanted a baseline. Do any of these make you nervous enough that you would recommend getting those little blue bottles? The visual on the Triton test had everything in the green, but RM wants me to start dosing! I've been offline traveling since the middle of summer. But let's jump right back into this... From the dosing recommendations, I can't tell if you did an ICP or ICP-MS test. I'm assuming just ICP. Of all the things recommended to dose, I'd react to Fluoride. Then Potassium and Bromine. Mg/Ca/Sr are easy. I don't have your Iodine reading, obviously don't let it zero out. For the other Daily type elements to dose, I've been doing ICP-MS tests and am up to what feels like a lot. It's crazy hard to keep Manganese and Iron levels up. 40ml of Manganese 15ml of Iron-X (the 10x strength version) 12ml of Copper 4ml Chrome 4ml Cobalt 1.7ml Seachem Reef Iodide
Krux
I was cleaning the tank as we have visitors this week and took a few more progression pics. I imagine a few of these will only be of interest to me! To update from October, the white rock filling the middle third of the tank that I was tracking coralline growth on is now almost completely covered. The Jake Adams frag from Andy has gone horizontal, and is now growing up to start another plate. I am obsessed with this growth pattern and can only imagine what the colony looked like in the ocean when he collected it. A couple of granulosa that survived the tank crash have lost their green and are starting to put on mass. The first one still has dead skeleton but tissue is VERY slowly covering it up. After losing at least 20 of these in March and not really knowing what survived it is a bit of a mystery what they will end up being. I am hoping one is my old Peng’s Purple Tip. Proud reef dad. Not really sure what this is, got it from Jeff. It was cream with yellow tips when I got it, if this came from any of you please post a mother colony shot! Lastly, got a tiny male Lamarck’s that has survived amongst the giant fish. Took three but he is getting along well with the female that is 5 times his size (well they ignore each other which I see as “remote cooperation” and he is no longer shy). My new Orphek lights are tracking to land Tuesday. Assuming I don’t fry everything I hope for another update in the near future. Spoiler-free full tank shot for @obrien.david.j. Now you can see it all in one shot from end to end! Thanks for looking! Edited November 24 by Krux
