Holly
I'm running my MHs 9-6 (actinics 8-8). Do you think it'd be OK to just run them 10-5? My chiller's working overtime, I'm having a titch of an algae issue (not bad but annoying), and I'm not sure if my SPS require that many hrs. I'm running three 250W 10Ks, and I have the SPS in the top 12" of the tank (acro, mille, seriato, monti). What're you guys with some SPS doing, as far as hours-per-day? Thanks
JeffP
I run mine ~10-10 with the actinics 8:30 - 11:30. My temp flucuates roughly 4 degrees with one fan running. Yesterday actually it hardly changed thanks to the cool breeze coming in the windows I've got two 175W 12Ks.
civicsit
I run mine from 11:00am-9:00pm (about 10hrs) both actinic and MH. I have a single 250w MH and 2x65w actinic over a 30g oceanic cube. My temp stays at 78 +/- 1 deg.
Holly
So...7 hours prob isn't enough. 'Guess I'll stay with 9-6. thnx
defigart
In the tropics you have roughly a 12 hr day (6am-6pm). The sun is really only at its peak from 9ish to 4ish. Granted the suns radiation puts even our most powerful lamps to shame.
drock59
ive run mine as little as 5 hours a day and my corals did great. I think you will be just fine with the reduced photoperiod, but thats my two cents.
civicsit
I don't think that a shorter photoperiod would be a big deal, as long as you decrease it slowly, like decreasing it by 1/2 hour every 3-4 days until you reach what you want. Holly
I might try that. 'Maybe just cut back a half-hour in the am and in the pm and see how it goes. An hr doesn't seem like a big difference....
impur
I ran my MH for 7 total hours and it was the only light on my 29gal. I had great results.
