chewie
I just got a spawning pair of darwins from Jody. Couldn't pass up the smokin deal and the opportunity. I have them in a ten gallon holding tank for now. Cycling a 20L that I'll transfer the coral from my 5G nano over to, the the clowns. I'm going to figure out how to post photos and start a thread on here to let people join in on the journey. Wish me luck! Right on! Got a pic to share? chewie
Thanks Chris. I did worry about it at first but it could have been anything.
albertareef
Nice! Thanks for the new pics Jon - those little guys are looking so cute with the rest of their stripes coming in. Sorry you lost a couple more but still seems like a great success rate to me - they fare far less well in the wild so there is that!
chewie
Good point Sean. I'm not too concerned about it yet. Just keeping everyone up to date. I added a deltec mce600 skimmer to the tank today just in case though. They're pooping ALOT???? I'm planning on moving them to a bigger tank soon. Hopefully in the next week. chewie
Everyone is growing well and so far no more losses. I think I'm down to 170 + or -. Some of them are starting to get darker and I have 1 that is completely black except for his face. He's the smallest one in the tank(go figure) and feisty! Going to be moving them to my sump pretty soon. https://vimeo.com/181513604 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

albertareef
Thanks for the update - man, they are cute! I like the little guy... hope he makes it. What are you going to do with 170 clownfish anyway? Going to need some more tanks!

chewie
Hey Jon - how is the brood doing these days? Lost a few more in the last few weeks. I think I'm at around 168 give or take. Most have been developing their black a lot lately. I separated the 10 smallest of them and put them in my daughters new tank. 9 of them like the branching euphyllia but 1 of them loves the BTA. Here's a pic and a vid. I'll get another vid of the others soon. https://vimeo.com/185869529 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
albertareef
Love that pic! Get em started early eh? Thanks for the update - seems like a pretty darn good success rate so far.
Fragged
This is pretty awesome. I was going to try this as well at some point but it seems the market for clowns is saturated. Knowing my luck I'd end up with hundreds of clowns and wouldn't even be able to give them away.

albertareef
Those big ones seem much larger than the rest of the brood but hard to tell for sure since they are in different tanks. Thanks for the updates Jon!

chewie
Sorry for the lack of updates. Been super busy! All are doing well. I've lost probably about another 4 or 5 to accidental over feeding. They WILL over eat..... Most of them are 1.5" or bigger. I have a few that don't get a lot of food and are less than an inch. I have split the batch in 2 to help the smaller ones get food. The biggest get all the food... they're pigs! Here's a few vids, in the first one the parents were checking out their babies from what I can tell.... first time they've seen them. These are the small batch. https://vimeo.com/197650468 Here's the bigger guys. https://vimeo.com/197650525 One more of the smaller guyshttps://vimeo.com/197650566 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
TaylorW
That's awesome!! I've always been very curious about this, it looks like you did great. At what age did your clowns start spawning? Im just wondering, my mochas are about 18 months Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G360AZ using Tapatalk
chewie
Thanks. Mine were spawning after the 2 year mark but I couldn't see the eggs as they were in a reef tank with lots of rock. A good indication that they're ready is when they start attacking your hands and killing off tank mates.
wanikki
Cool! I think we have two of these clown babies in our tank. If Jon is the same Jon from SO in Gresham.

I hope they don't kill any of my other fish though! Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G360AZ using Tapatalk
