I have a Nem tank on my desk at work that i get to look at every day. Things i have noticed as i have watched 5 nems split over the last year that seem to be the same and a good sign they are in the process of splitting. One of the signs i have noticed is that there will be a bunch of small tentacles starting to grow and unroll like a row of shark teeth as seen in the 2 pics below.

I have read that they will split when their environments conditions have a big swing in them. Like..." Aaaaa......what is happening, the water is getting real high in BLANK. I better split in two and hope one of me lives " so i tried raising and lowering my salinity. That didn't work. But i did leave work on a friday once and left the light on in manual BLUE mode, and when i popped in on Sunday half of the nems in the tank slid to the shadier sides and i had 2 more nems than when i left on Friday.

Other things i have noticed are that the base or foot will look like its running away in opposite directions. I have one right now that has been all over the tank in the last 4 days and seem to be stretching it's self in long funky positions. It happens to be the Colorado Sunburst that i purchased with another member, so lets hope it splits......i know he wants his half, lol.

If you want to try to make them split, use temp! That's what I did....on accident... And the little guy split right in half. He had made his way into one of my filter socks and while cleaning the tank I set the sock outside...in the rain...when it was about 50 degrees...popped that guy back into the tank and bam what do ya know, he split haha. Maybe lower your temp by a few degrees one day and raise it back to normal the next?

Here are a couple more picture of a nem splitting for this thread :) caught one in the action of splitting a few months ago. It took him about 20 minuets to get from picture one to picture two where he is almost done splitting. 58d91e775f0902260655a78002004d73.jpg317afd590e85ef8202681e37fb4c5f75.jpg
