Help!! I have ICK!!

Paratore

Recommended Posts

Well now that I have your attention, I have two tangs in a quarantine tank (hippo tang and Yellow tang) and the hippo has ICK which means the other one isn't far behind. I have used Quick Cure before to cure fish of ick but I am about to run out in the next day or two and they discontinued the product. What medications do you guys recommend I use instead?

Thanks!!!

Alot of people use copper products to treat fish of various ailments but for Ich I find that a nice Hyposalinity treatment will knock it right off. There used to be a really good link to Marine Ich information, let me see if I can find it again.

Quick Cure  is Malachite Green and Formalin. There are similar brands on the market with the same ingredients, such as Rid Ich.  Paragon and Paragon 2 are other brands of medication that worked well.  Most folks use copper sulfate, Coppercure or other similar meds for Cryptocaryon and Oodinium. I have used Metronidazole with good results for Cryptocaryon. So does Quinine Sulphate. Chloriquine is another option. Keep an eye on the ammonia, as it totally breaks down biological activity.

Also, this list includes a lot of brand names and should be helpful in locating medications. http://www.feamane.org/pages/fish_meds.html

Thank Jman.

Thank you both for all of the informations! Would you guys recommend hypo salinity or copper? What are the pros and cons of both?
