Sasquatch
So I wanted to know people's opinion on the little starfish.. Have you caught it eating your Zoas? I've seen several of the grey ones devour a polyp as it was struggling to stay open.. Or on the side of a healthy one closing it.. I like the all white big ones that seem to just stick to the sides but I've been plucking out the grey ones
TheClark
They drive me nuts with worry, but I don't think they have caused too many issues. That is spooky you have caught them snacking.
Emerald525
As you have probably seen in your search there is debate about whether hey are harmful. I have read that the grayish colored ones can be considered a possible predator towards zoas. To me they were more of just a nuisance but a Harlequin shrimp works well to clean them out???? Of course you may have to feed them an occasional starfish when the numbers die down.
badxgillen
I have found that the bland white\cream looking ones are of no real threat but the ones with the nicer looking purple patterns are suspect to eating daintier varieties of zoas as well as newly forming polyps to say the least.
Sasquatch
Does this make me racist to only have the big white ones in my tank? Look at these monsters Edited March 5, 2015 by Sasquatch
Sasquatch
But the bristly ones can hide in the rocks too..
Bombertech
I've had more issues with amphipods... BUT, I pull the astrinas when I see them too.
Smann
I had a lot of them so I got a Harlequin shrimp, they are under control now. I do get a starfish once a month or so, they come back a little when he has his starfish!
Jack-the-reefer
I hate them. I had three happy clarkatoas one night, one the next morning. I caught the little turd just as it was moving onto the last polyp.
rworegon
I lost my yoda's to the little bastages. If you read this Matt, please put me in line for another frag when you have some. I have been on a mission to eradicate them from the reef. I've cought them on the bam bam's, tubs blues, true red pe's, and several other zoas. My blue linkia eats them occasionally, but I mostly feed them to my dog faced puffer. He eats them like popcorn. reefnjunkie
I've caught the blacker ones eating zoas back in the day when I kept zoas so IMO foe to zoa keepers friends to those who have harlequin shrimp-shrimp must eat too
