Burningbaal
I'm going to be removing my maroon clown, but she's super fast and excellent at hiding. I spent about 2 hours one night stressing her out a few weeks ago unsuccesfully. I've heard about people using baited (de-barbed) fish hooks. anyone have experience? maybe a #8 hook? I've got some frozen oyster mash or other frozen food I can use. other ideas? I'd like to avoid dissasembling the whole tank and don't want to spend $40 on a fish trap. MVPaquatics
Rent a fish trap. Many are around. Try and make one. I like to catch at night if i can with a flashlight. Blind and corner them. Also you can use dividers to make the tank smaller. Trust me you can do it. My worst time ever was catching like 8 fish including 6 line wrasse, damsels, and yellow tangs in a 10 foot tank, i was alone, only armed with a 4 inch net. I have used barbless hooks, krill is good bait. Its not ideal and pretty stressful. I USUALLY trade my stress for the fishes well being and end up chasing them haha. I have had pretty good luck putting krill in a net and some fish just dive in, either wanting the food or defending territory.

J-Dog
Make a trap out of a Gatorade bottle. Really simple and it has always worked for me
Burningbaal
after lights out is a good idea, would prob help. gatorade bottle? don't know how that would work, do you have a good link?
newfisher
Cut the top of the bottle 2" under the cap. remove the cap and invert the top piece and push back into the bottle. Insert garlic laced food and wait.
Burningbaal
sounds like it'd work...and trap with a net once she goes in, I guess?
Nate213
One of my clowns was so aggressive that it would bite me and hang on. I just had to put my hand in the tank until it latched on and then pull my hand from the tank. I had to remove it on a weekly basis while cleaning the tank. Burningbaal
that's pretty wild. my perc will nip at me, but it's so small it's just startling. the maroon always hides from me but is super aggressive to the perc and somewhat to my six-line. not to mention that it tries to host in my ricordea which really pisses them off. nelsz3
I tried the gatorade method with a cigar wrasse i had with no success i eventualy used a weighted jig hook i broke the barb off to get him out but he was the king of the tank and take the first bite of anything that went into the tank! it took me six days to get one fish out. recently i needed to remove a royal gramma that I'm pretty sure ate one of my small clownfish and decided before time that it would be a good time to rearange the rock work because there was no other way to catch him. so if the trap fails a hook and bait does work just be gentle when you pull the hook asto not hurt him, it can be frustrating!!! but patience is the key the more persistant you are the harder it will be (maybe its just me getting pissed cause it seems so easy for the lfs to catch the fish but when i try they look at me like I'm stupid)
J-Dog
sounds like it'd work...and trap with a net once she goes in' date=' I guess?[/quote'] No need to use a net. For some reason, once they go in the bottle trap, they can't figure out how to get out. You might need to put a small rock into the bottle to keep it weighed down in your tank. MVPaquatics
Also. If you use a net be careful. They have spines on their operculum that can easily stick into nets. If that happens just dont panic and cut the net if you have to. Keep a steady hand.
