Tips on removing soft corals

I have a ton of mushrooms and other soft corals that seem to be outgrowing/overtaking the nicer corals around them. Does anyone have a good method of removing them without killing them? I would like to donate or share the love or??? I know I could figure out a way to just kill them with scissors or something, but that just doesn't make much sense to me considering there are people paying money for this stuff. Any info is appreciated, Thanks

You can't really kill them with scissors, just make more of them

With mushrooms, you can put them in a blender (not puree but chopped fine), and if you put them back in the tank you will have lots of little mushrooms. :) There were several people trying this over on nano-reef.com a few years back. I don't think scissors will "kill" mushrooms.

I sometimes just play with the foot of the mushroom with a piece of blunt plastic (like the corner of a credit card). If it is not wedged in a crack then the foot will sometimes let go and fall off the rock. But like wannareef said, it is easier to break off a piece of rock (I use a dremmel rotary tool with a diamond wheel to cut some of the rock off) then you can use superglue to attach the small pebble to wherever you want to put it.

When I first started I spent a lot of hours at garf.org reading about fragging. Just don't get distracted by all the advertisements or the sales pitches. Here is an easy read about fragging mushrooms http://www.garf.org/-2010/mushroomschool.html

Good luck to you.
