racefan
I'm putting a sump on my 29 gal Bio Cube. The refugium compartment is 7"x9". I just want it to be able to breed copipods or amphipods. It will have live sand in it. I'm a tad confused on if I should have live rock rubble in there or just a sand bed & some chaeto or possibly pieces of live rock(not rubble)What's your thoughts? Burningbaal
I'm doing a compartment of my sump to have rock and chaeto. I've got 80-90 lbs of rock to choose from for my 55 gallon plus sump. whatever I don't want to display I'll be squeezing into the sump (until it's full) not sure if that helps. NoobtoSalt
When I had my biocube running I had live rock rubble in the center chamber. Had very little maintence on that tank.
racefan
I've read about it trapping detritus if you don't have enough turnover in your sump. What's considered enough turnover?
Burningbaal
you could always just stick a cheap powerhead in the sump. I'd imagine that 10x would be enough to keep the detritus to a minimum assuming it's actually flowing through the rock (not just above it) but someone with more exp than me may disagree... NoobtoSalt
I had some filter floss sitting on the top of the rubble to catch some of the waste. Sure it caught some copepods too but that tank was dialed when I had it running.
