Study Confirms Soft Corals Are Reef Builders

Taipei, Taiwan - "A team of Taiwan and Israeli scientists have found that a genus of soft corals is responsible for building reefs, Academia Sinica said Friday.

 

The finding challenges conventional notions of "reef corals," which basically refer to stony corals, whose aragonite skeletons make up the foundation of coral reefs, said the country's most prestigious research institution.
