Eugenereef
What do people use here to treat Ich! I have two fishes that have come down with ich(flame) and I need to treat them. Ofcourse, catching them is going to be a challenge to begin with!! Thanks for your input.
impur
Dang that sucks. The only thing i would suggest is removing them and treat with cupramine in QT.
Eugenereef
Yeh! That seems to be the plan. Now on to fish trap. I will have to make one out of coke bottle!
reefnjunkie
Good luck, that coke bottle never worked for me-I have always let it run its course and thankfully nothing has died- When I get me new tank a QT is a must-In the past I have been lazy/stupid and lucky http://www.reefsanctuary.com/forums/fish-diseases-treatments/52236-curing-fish-marine-ich.html
Gill
I suggest you let it run it's course as well. You run a risk either way. What are you feeding, how many fish, what size tank?
Gill
P.S. what is your temp?
Eugenereef
(sad) So I killed my fish. Gill's post came bit late. I was able to catch the fish. Put him in the QT tank and it was not doing so well! So I transferred him back to the main tank. It just hung around for some time then went dead!!! Sad thing is he was the toughest fish in the tank. I also read if I would have raised the tem to 86, I could have taken the ich out !!!
kschaefers
I am having the same problem! I guess ill try to let it run its course too or is the temp way better? Cause two of my fish have already died and another is on its way out it will probably be dead by morning by the looks of it and the healthy ones are now covered so I dunno if all that is normal in a cycle but I'm kind of afraid they are going to die as well (sorry to ask questions on your thread upinder)
jonas
Sorry for your loss guys. I think we have all been there. Ich sucks.
titus'reef
Herbana worked for me and didn't kill any corals or invertebrates. Just fallow directions and you should be fine. I got mine from SWF, but there might be mores stores that sell it. http://www.fosterandsmithaquatics.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+4615+21422&pcatid=21422
Nate213
I have wonderful luck with hyposalinity treatment. You have to catch it early though before the fish are nearly dead. It takes lots of time but there are several benefits over chemicals. Google it and tons of info will come up.
kschaefers
Well my clown that is still alive had the spots all over its body last night and this morning it seems to be peeling? Like strings of skin are coming off or something that hasn't happened before
impur
Doesn't sound good.......i'd bet it won't make it. But the upside is (if thats your last fish) you can leave your tank fish free for a few months and be sure you won't ever have to go thru that again. Treat all new fish with cupramine or hypo and QT. Then you won't have to ever worry about outbreaks again, or giving ich to someone you trade corals with.
kschaefers
There are still two chromis that are still eating and my watchmen goby but that one has no signs what so ever maybe I should just qt the chromis for a couple weeks just to make sure, how long would I need to medicate new fish for before I put them in the tank when its ready
Eugenereef
Thanks for the info guys! Yeh! I think going forward, I'll look more into rasied temperature and hyposalinity treatments! As a rule I NEVER add any chemical/meds (except Chemiclean ) to my tanks and let the animals fight it off naturally and have had good success with it. but this was a desparate attempt to save this guy who had already fought a few battles with Ich and established his role as a TOP DOG in the tanks! RIP! Here are a few pics and how bad he was covered when I pulled him out of the DT.
impur
About 6 weeks to treat. Tank needs to be fish free for 8 weeks
impur
Dang thats too bad Upinder sorry to hear. That was one cool PBT Seems i'm the one of the only people on this board that is all for QT and treatment of fish, but if you go thru the trouble of doing it you won't ever have this problem. One thing to note is that you have ick not ich (both are abbreviations) ich is the freshwater version and will respond to a higher temp, however ick the saltwater version will not respond to a higher temp. Gill
I'm sorry about your fish. :( P.S. I probably would have tried the QT as well, if my tag had that many spots.

Agreed. I used to QT and run hyposalinity on all new fish. Then i got ick in my tank from some snails or coral frags and I stopped for a while. On my new tank, I'm going to QT EVERYTHING. Lost my sunburst anthia, flasher wrasse and spotted dragonette but i was able to save my clowns and Desjardini tang. Ever since i've gone thru it for every single thing that goes into my tank. I even QT snails now.
