pump vibration

I just purchased a Maxi-Jet 1200 for my dual reactor, but when I place it in my tanks rear chamber, it makes a horribly loud vibrating noise. Is there any way to reduce the noise level on these pumps or are the 1200's just loud? I'm not sure if it's loud because it's vibrating against the glass or not. Just thought u guys would have some ideas since they are very popular pumps.

They are not usually loud when new. I would also guess its up against something and vibrating. I wrapped a large rubberband around one of my maxijets that i use to mix kalk with because it rests against the glass and vibrates. You could also put a suction cup on the glass where the MJ is touching it.

With my pump (Quiet One 9000), if you just have it sitting on the bottom of the sump, it will vibrate the acrylic and make a little noise. I'm just going to pick up some heavy rubber washers from the hardware store and bolt/glue them to the pump feet to dampen the vibrations carried to the sump.

Just another idea...

Well, I just found out that the pump isn't the problem, it's the restriction gauge attached to the reactor. When I turn it down to have less flow so the media doesn't tumble too much, it causes the pump to become very loud. When I open the gauge all the way, the pump is quiet. So I guess I'm stuck with a loud pump, unless u guys know a way to solve this problem

Smaller pump?

Make sure the housing is fully engaged on the pump body, and not off one of the tabs. These pumps are typically completely silent. Perhaps running more media in each chamber will do the trick rather than throttling pump down too far.
