stylaster Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Hi Guys I run two 250w 20k radiums over my chalice tank. I would like to add some actinic to the tank and i was thinking LED would be a great way to go. Do any of the LED manufacturers just make an actinic style led light hood?
Smann Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 I dont know about a hood but there are several strips, I'm sure you could get all blue then mount them just like a T5 or VHO
stylaster Posted June 2, 2011 Author Posted June 2, 2011 ok that's what i was wondering, and also if there are different wave lengths of leds like there are for actinic t-5 bulbs. Hard to find good info
Smann Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Here's one but there are a bunch more out there http://www.ecoxotic.com/products/modular-led-lighting/stunner-led-strips.html
stylaster Posted June 2, 2011 Author Posted June 2, 2011 That's what im looking for! Thanks much steve!
MVPaquatics Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 Yeah i have 9 bulb strips. Great add ons for a little extra pop. You can get any blue to white ratio you want. I just picked up a nice fixture thats 120 watts. 56 blue 56 white. And 3 fans. I wish i had a par meter to see what it does. Definitely seems brighter than my 175 halide. I am loving leds now a days. Me and my friends laugh at the fans. It has to be for longevity. They keep it ice cold instead of just cold hahaha
ReeFit Posted June 2, 2011 Posted June 2, 2011 we also have those led fixtures in the shop at oiab. we can have them made with any number and color of leds you specify. I too am really liking the blue actinic pop you get from LED lights plus very very little heat and energy consumption.
stylaster Posted June 2, 2011 Author Posted June 2, 2011 sweet ill have to come down and see you robert and see what we can do
jadams7 Posted June 3, 2011 Posted June 3, 2011 they are a bit spendy, but I love the Current Powerbrite actinic setup that I have...VERY bright and would easily light up my whole 34g solana. http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_viewitem.aspx?idproduct=CU01644&child=CU01648&utm_source=mdcsegooglebase2&utm_medium=cse&utm_campaign=mdcsegooglebase2&utm_content=CU01648
jackaninny Posted June 4, 2011 Posted June 4, 2011 Yes - LED come in different wavelengths. Here's one place to start to get some of the basics - NR- Ultimate LED Guide and then the discussion that follows has a cr@p ton of info.
