reef165
Nice, are you open this weekend? What hours?
WAVES
Be sure they are caps not ignitors, HQI (in your case its actually an HPS ballast) have both.

reef165
Cool, I'll be there at 12 ish tomorrow. Ya I know there is a ignitor, I have opened the ballast up and seen it, I am assuming it is the cap, I'm trying that first then if that dosn't work I'll go with the ignitor. Rick
Is the capacitor split open? Usually when they go bad they split open and have goo coming out.
reef165
No, no goo, one of the cap's looks new, the other looks like it was hot but still no goo. You thinking it's the igniter? The bulb dosn't even do anything when trying to turn it on.
Rick
The ignitors don't split open the way the capacitors do. If one looks new then someone may have tried to replace it already and given up. What are the specs on the capacitors? I think the HQI uses a different one from the regular. Have you checked to be sure there is power getting past the switch. Check for a bad ground also. It's a bit odd that both would go out at the same time which leads me to believe it may be a wiring or switch issue rather than the caps or ignitors. reef165
Both didnt go out at the same time, one went out a while ago then the other went out recently. when power is on the transformer dose hum so the power is getting that far. The cap and ignitor are two sep things, I have tryed switching the ingitors with no dif. but haven't gotten new ones. Ya the ballasts are basicaly 430watt HPS ballasts
reef165
Ok so I went and picked up the cap's from Isaac and tryed one out and it did nothing so I took Rick's advice and took off all the wire nuts one at a time and cut off about an inch of wire on each wire and put all back together as it was when I opened it up and whala they both work. Thank's Rick and Isaac for your help!

reef165
OK, not done yet, so I got the lights hooked up today and well the side that first went out works great, the last side to go runs dimmer and once it's warmed up goes out, I know it's not the bulb cuz I switched them just to make sure it wasn't. What could it bee?
Rick
Does it come back on after it cools off? If so double check the connections. Also be sure the bulb is in tight. Maybe try a different bulb.
