AquaticEngineer
Anyone ever use sprinkler solenoid valves in their saltwater plumbing? Seems like a pretty cost effective way to stop syphon back feed or block off filter. Thinking of grabbing some off ebay to use as syphon cutoffs since my sump filter will be going on and off so much and the returns are going to be well below water level. stylaster
only issue i can see is if they have any metal in them, if they are all plastic, should be ok, but i doubt they are, especially the spring
AquaticEngineer
I'm almost more tempted to just use one of the rubber flapper valves so there is no chance of metal in the water or of mechanical failure. Anyone use these? Pros cons? Where to get them? I guess I could always leave one of the return pipes as is and not worry about it, but it would look so much nicer with both returns close to the bottom of the tank. Especially since the overflow will be pulling water from the surface and the closed loop will be pulling water from underneath the false bottom.
