Zoolander
I currently have the Coralife PC retrofit on the tank and it works well but is obviously not that great. I would like to do a 70w MH but have concerns about the heat since the tank is enclosed. T5s seem like a good alternative that being said. Below is a pic of the tank I have, I don't have any good pics of my tank at the moment. What are people's thoughts on the feasibility of a MH/T5 conversion. stylaster
They do make clip on metal halide lights that are in the 70w range. Check out http://www.aquacave.com/SearchResult.aspx?CategoryID=642 The benefit is an open top, so heat buildup shouldn't be an issue
wegotjs
I am working on a 12G nano and it has triple 9" T-5 but it seems good bulbs are not being made for the short bulbs anymore. Might want to think about that before going t5.
Zoolander
I've noticed that. Finding short T5 bulbs isn't as easy as I thought it would be.
AquaticEngineer
Are you wanting to keep the stock tank lid on it or go open top? You can make a DIY 70w pendant with the bulb and ballast for under $70. But I would look into using the Cree 3w LEDS and wiring up a custom fixture for that small a tank. Zoolander
I'd like to if possible. Here's the underside of the hood. A DIY MH hood would be super simple, though, and open top would require no fan, right?
AquaticEngineer
Yeah if you hung the pendant or put it on a movable arm you should be fine for air flow. Its really easy to add a small computer fan to the setup and get a little air flow though. Or buy one of the small clamp on fan units LIKE THIS ONE ON EBAY
