NoobtoSalt
(clap)So I went ahead and traded some gear for this 29 gallon Biocube for my son Andrew for his 6th bday coming up this weekend. He loves to come with me to all the fish shops and even the meeting that we attended although he was extremely shy. It's not much on the lines of pictures for now but He and I will be updating everyone just like our threads to show the progress of his tank. Thanks again chewie!(clap) Picture of the birthday boy and his new tank! Helping Dad put sand in the tank. So this is what was going on when I was filling up water buckets from my tank....lol(scratch) What a suprise, you can't see anything....sorry but we will get some pictures up in the next few days that show a clear tank. :p Welcome the new little reefer "Andrew".

BrianB
Nice my sons love taking trips to fish stores in the area. They are the ones that wanted to start a 125 in the living room. (laugh) Although I have done FW for years and both boys have tanks in their rooms I have never done a SW tank I figured with thier interest we would work on it together just have to save some money up lol..... My son knows that I want to get a bigger tank for the living room so he thought he was getting my 75 gallon for his bedroom....(laugh) He has a 10 gallon freshwater tank that will be emptied out and now he can focus on this tank. My wife didn't realize how big a 29 even was..
ReeFit
sweet. Welcome to the land of cubes. First thing. Get rid of the bio balss and replace with LR rubble. Put a hydor mechanical water spinner on it and get a small oceanic power head if you don't have one already.
NoobtoSalt
sweet. Welcome to the land of cubes. First thing. Get rid of the bio balss and replace with LR rubble. Put a hydor mechanical water spinner on it and get a small oceanic power head if you don't have one already. Bio balls never installed. Bought some live rock rubble today. Not sure what a mechanical water spinner is... It has a Hydor nano pump installed in it. Just went to go check on it and the sand still hasn't settle down much so I shut the pumps off for a bit. This should be fine right?
ReeFit
the spinner is a snap on device that mechanically rotates 360 degree's and swirls the water around. i also added a oceanic power head to mine that sucktions onto the glass. you will want much more flow to keep the algae from growing so fast on the glass. the stock lighting isn't the greatest, but it does work fine for soft corals and some hardy LPS. I have frog spawn in mine along with mushrooms, rics, zoas and some kenya tree.
ReeFit
Oh and if you want, i have some green mushrooms and a few zoas he can have, also have lots of kenya tree, some pulsing xenia and GSP. let me know if you guys are interested.

I use clarity by seachem. it clears up the water in less than a few hours. when i setup a system that gets really cloudy, i usually run just strait carbon in a media sock, and a pre filter. i don't like wasting the expensive filters that come with the biocubes. i still run the pumps because that will help filter out the water and clear it up quicker, you just don't want a bunch of crap going into your LR rubble in the sump. chewie
Looks good Jesse! You could use the filter cartridges to clear it up. LMK when it's ready and I'll donate a few frags.
NoobtoSalt
Thanks for the offer you guys. When I get his tank a little more situated we might take you up on the offers. The tank is a little more clear this morning but it sure didn't clear up as fast as my main tank when I added sand to it. I added one of the carbon biocube plates last night but I might try the water clarifier. Thanks!

ReeFit
lookin good. were you able to get the water level right? get a digital thermometer if you don't have one and watch the water temp on the tank to see if it warrants running that heater. i'm gonna venture to say you don't need it. Even with my lights off at night my tank never goes below 74-

Even with my lights off at night my tank never goes below 74-75 I went ahead and added more rock to the back and got the sump setup like we talked about. I pulled the heater based on your recomendation. Fish seem to be happy but I can always throw it back in if needed. The parameters seemed to be fine but I went ahead and did a 5 gallon change at the same time I did everything else. Thanks again for your input.
