reef165 Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 unless youve got a leak in an acrylic tank and need to patch it in witch case you could also use some acrylic shavings and weldon 4 to make a past, its very messy to use to build with and will be betteroff using #4 and #16 whare needed. I am starting work, (or will be) on a 75 gal glass tank, into a sump, with waer flow and pressure, I don't want to do it twice, so I hope the stuff is the right stuff Quote
reef165 Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 im not sure abought that, whare did you read that? from what ive read and done theres realy nothing that you can use to glue glass to acrylic and have it perform under any kind of pressure. but hey let us know how it goes, and i hope you can prove me wrong. R-3 Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 Why not silicone Blaine? I used a GE #1 (non- mold resistent) and it worked great on siliconing in my overflow. A lot cheaper too. Later Ryan Quote

R-3 Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 Well I guess everyone has a opinion. But I think he recommends the Bostik stuff for acrylic to glass and the 40 for pvc. Maybe im reading it wrong. Are you just putting baffles in? Later Ryan Quote

Nyles Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 please post back results, I would like to do a DIY like this but wrote it off due to problems mending acrylic to glass. Quote
reef165 Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 have you tryed it yet? whats the verdict? does it hold? Quote
fly guy Posted December 3, 2006 Posted December 3, 2006 Is this for acrylic baffles in a glass sump Blaine?? Regular silicone will work fine. To be sure, it wont actually bond the surfaces....but you run a bead along both sides and underneath the baffle(on both sides)..........the silicone does bond to the glass of course and it creates little walls that hold the baffle in place, done right there is minimal to zero leakage around the baffle...and if so......surely not enough to matter if it IS just for baffles Just a simple idea for ya Quote
