siskiou
Am currently reading about setting up a deep sand bed in a bucket for nitrate removal (instead of adding the SB to the sump), and am thinking of giving it a try. Would an old Fluval filter be a good idea to use (just fill with sand, taking all the filter compartments out)? Or is that not enough surface area)? The key here is DEEP SAND BED, 6 to 10 inches D, Non silica sand, And bed, being your not disturbing it. The Bacteria develops in layers, you’re not after water flowing through, but over it. I have an external DSB bucket.

And is it having a measurable affect on your nitrates? How long have you run it?
CCR
It's beeb about 10 weeks, it have been helping.
