CCR
So i just lost power at my place. what do i need to do to my tank and how long before i need to worry? You NEED air in the tank such as a battery operated pump with air stone
Rick
If you don't have a battery operated pump then every half hour or so take a container (gallon jug or similar) and scoop up some water. Then dump it back into the tank. This will keep some gas exchange occuring so the water will still have oxygen in it.
Rick
BTW, either method will be good for a day or two. It would be a pain though to keep dumping water through the night.
finch6013
I have heard of people using a big spoon or similar to stir the water every so often to keep it oxygenated.
Michael7979
Yeah stir it or dump water into it every once in awhile. That is if you do not have a battery operated airpump. You should be OK for a day at that rate. PITA to do it over night though. Is it glass or acrylic? They hold heat differently.
SeanF
What you really have to look at is keeping your temperature up. I am assuming you don't have heat without power so your water temperature will be dropping and you will only make it drop faster by agitating the surface of the water so you don't want to do it too often. As the water temperature drops the ability of the water to hold oxygen increases so basically the farther your temperature falls the less you should mess with your tank. Oxygen is easy to add to the tank even without power heat is not.

moovinfast
Well our power just came back on a little bit ago. We ended up getting 2 battery air pumps but by the time my wife got home from work and we found them our power was back when we got home. Everything still seems to be ok. moovinfast
Yeah, we're going to keep them. I'm just about to check em to make sure they work and keep them next to my tank just in case.
