snowpunk
I'm looking for the covers that fit almost flush with the wall for tank drains. I think they are called strainers but I have googled everything under the sun and I'm still coming up blank...(scratch)
Rick
I think they are called screens. If you find them let me know. I would be interested in getting one for my closed loop.
Krux
http://www.coralreefsupply.com/index.php?aquarium=detail&detail=1079 1" model there search for strainer screen, suction screen, the ones you have probably seen joel at waves used to have, and i think travis at upscales has had in the past, a fast call around to the shops should locate one for you. Rick
A quick search turned up a few places that advise getting them from a pool and spa store. I've looked and asked at several of the LFS and they only had the regular ones.
Krux
Joel used them on his tanks in his shop... have you asked him?
snowpunk
Yea, I have seen them in a few places just wondering what sizes are available. I have a crazy idea(plotting) and I want to know if it is even possible... Don't askDOH! And that one you posted up was the only one I was able to find. Rick
Joel used them on his tanks in his shop... have you asked him? I didn't ask Joel about them. I did look over most of the plumbing parts last time I was in there though and didn't see any (Not much left though when I checked). Same with Upscales. Over on this side of town I think I checked all of the places except for Nick's. I may end up over at his shop in the next few days though for some other parts and if so I'll check there if I remember it.

snowpunk
planning for a closed loop. I have a snapper that I will be running for it with an upgraded impeller. It will run 4200gph I think. I was going to use bulkheads and those covers to do it. I have a friend that is getting me a few bulkheads and he brought me a few home to show me what he has and the 2" is HUGE but now I am thinking about using 2 of them to return to the pump. My thought was cut down on suction(I plan on having little fish) and make it so the pump will never starve for water at all. I don't want to hear the slightest siphon sound. Already found a 2"x2"x2" Y too! Do you think that will work out okay?
Krux
I don't know much about the snapper, but keep in mind the size of the plumbing for 2", I did my whole 125 in 1.5" and it was tight, but I knows that 2" gives tremendous flow capacity, Ive seen that used on big pumps for closed loops before and water flowed like a hydrant. wanareef
Brandon That's what I used on my CL, 2x 2" BH's and big 6" screens from that site. Several times one of my hitchhiker BTA's got sucked onto the screen, but since I used two of them - no problems just moved him off of it. What pump are you using on that and do you hear any suction at all from time to time? I would rather go overkill and put in 3x 2" returns if there is even a chance of hearing it, rather then be sorry I didn't do just a little more. wanareef
Using a Sequence 3800 before they came out with Snapper, Dart and so on. Freshwater pond pump with saltwater seals. The intake is on the bottom and the returns are on the sides (see pix) (top down) Ignore the PVC for the Gurgle Buster - the Bean Animal is on there now and works great. No noise - the intake is below water and the returns same. I just adjust the top two to break the surface water for movement.
wanareef
More Pix's You can see it's kind of "tight" on that back side. The Overflow drains sit between the CL intake - you can see those "Street Ell's" that are needed to make this work. Two are pointed down and the emergency one is turned up. No noise at all, not even the water cascading down the back wall of the tank.
kriswaters
I use the screens on my 1 1/2" bulk heads. Two feed my overflows and 2 feed my closed loop. Google "bulkhead screens"... here is one site http://www.flexpvc.com/cart/agora.cgi?product=BulkheadFittingScreens There are several others out there! BTW, I have a Dart for my Closed Loop. I wish I would have drilled my for the outputs...now I have a "manifold" of sorts that loops around the top of my tank (out of sight). I have four out puts that I switch around depending on what I need.
