Chief
Ryan at Advanced Aquarium (RIP) once showed me the difference between a 400 watt bulb and outside during a cloudy day. The cloudy day was about 5 times the par value of a overdriven radium bulb. Jay
reef165
Really? so dose that mean that even on a cloudy rainy day the natural light making its way through the clouds is still 5 times better than a 400 watt bulb ? Has anyone tryed insted of buying a solartube extention for a reflector to use it as a natural light reef? wouldnt a solar tube be just as much as buying a ballast, reflecter and bulb? Just without the monthly lighting bill.
CCR
Well I know that I can look where the sun is on a cloudy day and keep my eye site. I know i cannot look "at" a 400wt 20k across the room for only a couple of seconds. I personally don't think it would work For sure not on "dose that mean that even on a cloudy rainy day the natural light making its way through the clouds is still 5 times better than a 400 watt bulb? " I can't see( no pun) how that is possible. Yes you can get a sunburn on a cloudy day. They make special lighting for winter depression, from lack of sun light. Danik
that would be a cool thing to do, but probably most of us offset their lighting time so they can enjoy the reef when they get home from work.
