moovinfast
Does Jo-Anns Fabric sell any filter fabric? What should I look for?
spectra
What are you looking to use it for? I used to get big filter pads and cut them into little pcs for my sons nano. It was alot cheaper than buying the normal ones for it. And as for a fabric store I do not know if I would trust them.
reef165
were you thinking for a filter sock? I dont know what its called but you can use a thick felt like material.
tidalsculpin
I am pretty sure Wal Mart sells that thick felt filter sock fabric too. I have seen people cut it up on NR to use for aio filtration.
moovinfast
Well I have like a 20 gallon wet dry sump and I want to replace the fabric for the trickle filter. What I really want to do is turn it into a fuge, but Im not really sure how yet. I already removed all the bio balls and just replaced them with live rock. Here is a pic of what I have right now. Can I just pull out the filter fabric and tray and throw in some cheato with a light above it? Do I need a physical filter? Do I need sand in it? No, You don't need a filter as such (They tend to turn into nitrate factories anyway), the LR is a filter Optional, Sand can be used as a filter but isn't absolutely necessary Personally I just have 3-4" of sand in my entire sump with a separate refugium that has Cheato and Halimedia in it, some people just use LR alone and I will eventually add DIY LR in mine. Jay
I have a 20 gallon long glass tank that is already made into a refugium/sump with baffles already in place...25 bucks and thats a good deal. I paid 40 for the tank new. I have a pic somewhere if you want. Jay
moovinfast
I dont think I can get another sump in or out. I had to put this one in before I set up the tank. The only way I could get it in was throught the top. So should I try to put in a filter sock on the inlet for the sump or is it not needed? dsoz
I have one tank with a filter sock. It keeps the water clearer, but it also needs to be washed often (weekly at the longest). I also have another tank that does not have a filter sock. It does seem to take longer to clear up if there is a dust storm (go figure). But other than that, it is also doing well. It does seem to have a red cotton-candy algae problem more than the other tank, so it may be the detritus needs to be cleaned out more often than I have been doing it... People have a successful tank with a filter sock, and other have a successful tank without. It is a matter of preference. dsoz
Rick
I don't use them on either of my tanks and normally my water stays clear.
