bigfish
Hey I'm plumbling my frag tank and my 1 1/2" drain sounds like a toilet flushing. Anyone skilled at making a silencer? I'd be willing to pay someone for their time if they could help. Thanks!

bigfish
I'm not sure how to post a picture. It's a 1 1/2" elbow drain at the top of tank.

JonBoy
If it's what I'm thinking put a tee at the top with the elbow out the side then put a cap on top and drill a small hole in the cap big enough to vent Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
Bevo5
Yeah maybe some more photos. I'm by no means an expert - but it'll be silent if it goes full siphon. So for that you'd need to cut it down a bit further so it's below the water level. Do you have an emergency drain somewhere else? Only go full siphon if you do. ChrisQ
Go to Lowes or HD and pick up some gutter guard and cut a small piece and roll it and stick it in there leaving it sticking out of the water a bit, this will quiet it down a little and will also keep fish and snails out. And believe me keeping snails out is very important. (Stupid giant hermit plugging my main drain with turbo shell). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I remember that! Didn't you end up having to use a metal coat hanger to get it out? Yep it's unbelievably important to keep all critters out of the drains especially with all the gate/ball valves we have on our systems.
Jeremevans
Google "bean animal overflow" and you will find some more complicated, but quiet and safe overflow configuration.
bigfish
I don't have an emergency drain and the tank is drilled around the top. The elbow overflow is at the water level so I'm not sure what my options are as far precautionary measures.
Blue Z Reef
If your stuck on what you've got, maybe look at the H2Overflow system. Otherwise I'd do a box and bean animal and add a second hole for emergency drain. What tank is this on?

Yah I had to make a hook and grab the shell, he survived until he jammed his shell into a baffle hole on my sump, where he perished.
sschering
I'd make an external Durso. Other than that you would need to drill more holes for a bean animal. Bean animal is sooo quiet..
