WingRider62
So, as some of you know, we just setup a used Apex in the last few weeks. Well, the wife went with me on the truck for a two day run down the coast. Yesterday morning I get a text from the Apex that the temp was below 75 deg. So we decide to watch it for awhile, I keep getting messages that it is still dropping. Then I notice that the Amp are double what it normally is, and suspect the heater is crapping out. At this point we deicide it is best to turn the heater off remotely in case it burns up or crack and shorts out. Stopped at TPA on the way home (we can park the semi truck behind Kmart and walk a 1/2 block). Got home and sure enough, the heater had several burned places on the inside of the glass. Im sure if we had left the heater going, things would have been much worse.
badxgillen
OH Man! A close one, I have had equipment blow out in my tank and it never ends well. Good to hear you were able to prevent the possible disaster. And all that from your phone..I need to get a new phone, an apex too.
spectra
Yes good to hear it worked out. A messed up heater can nuke the tank quickly! Would love an APEX but the cost for just a nano is crazy. Come to think of it everything is crazy money for it they suck you in with a cheap tank.....
BoringDave
Apex Is next on my list of major tank purchases, Main reason is the ability to control a couple heaters. Until then I'm stuck in the stone ages using timers. Edited September 5, 2015 by BoringDave
frankb
Lol. I am glad the apex has worked out for you. It is always a good gadget to have for a reef tank.
