This kinda thing is getting out of hand... iv probably gotten 5 different places that have sent me letters saying my info had been comprised by a hacker... there needs to be something put in place to make these businesses put a little more effort into their security...

I got a call from my credit card company last month shading if I bought anything from Verizon in Georgia. I said no. They cancelled my card and sent me a new one overnight. I was wondering how that happened.

Just one more reason to buy local if you can.

It has happened to my wife's card a couple times now also, from other places, we finally just got a whole new bank account. Our new bank said they have been going after account numbers not just card numbers. Once they have your account number, you can change your cards all you want and they can still see the new card number. Then use the new card number so you think it's the problem.

It doesnt matter, if someone with enough experience and knowledge is determined they will in fact find an exploit, we will always continuously be in a game of cat and mouse with hackers (ask the finacial institutions they have been playing this game for years). Hiring new IS Specialists will simply drive the product pricing up as they don't come cheap and it's a full time job, not a 1 time fix as new exploits are found on a regular basis. Companies like BRS do not have money maintains such upkeep in comparison to massive corporations, therefore they will be a few steps behind.

The best thing for you to do is ensure companies on the internet do not have enough information to be concerned with when their DB's get hacked meaning they should only have the following info and nothing more:

Name, Address, Fake phone Number - junk email addy - CC# (Preferably Not) Definatley NO Debit Card info, and anytime possible USE Paypal <- they pay the IS Specialists and are always up to date.

This way when your info gets compromised they have a name and an adress big fing deal, a good enough internet search could have gotten them that, fake phone number good luck marketing at that, junk email address, Pile on the spam no biggy. and finally a CC#, well if it hasn't been ran yet call the bank cancel the card and have a new one shipped, if it has been used dispute the charges and get your money back in 3 days. If you only give this info you have nothing to worry about with online stores like this. If your bank, the government, or your health services provider get hacked.. well thats a completely different story luckily those are less frequent.

I got my letter yesterday and signed up for the 1 yr of free credit protection that BRS is giving everyone. I didn't have any red flags show up, but it was a relief to see the clean summary and to have the monitoring in place. It is something that I should be doing anyway.

Same here, we had a similar instance with a bank a few years back and they also provided this service, good job BRS thanks for following through with the free credit protection.

I just got a letter even though never bought anything from there (Account was setup for group buys). I'm guessing they are sending it out to the entire database.

I would agree with this. I've been buying from them for years, but made zero purchases nor logins to their site during the timeframe they specified.

Still got emails and a letter from them. Changed my (unique to their site) password anyway, and the only credit card I've ever used for their site expires next month so any criminals who might have gotten that info can have fun with it for about another week or two.

I saw on another forum that there are a few different letters that were sent out. Mine said that my personal info was in danger but not any payment information. Another person I know got one that said their payment info could have been compromised. I would assume since I always use paypal I should be ok?
