  1. Hey everyone. Just wanted to show off my nano tanks. 20g waterbox for corals and 10g waterbox anemone tank. Hoping to upgrade to a reefer 300 this Sunday. See you all at the

  3. Gunna experiment here with something fun and a bit new. I was scrounging around and found some acrylic sheets and some plumbing fittings and decided to make a 1 gallon mini cube DT. It will have water pumped from the sump of my main tank into this one then back though the bulkhead and will be mounted on the wall next to the main DT. Now the question is, should I make this into a small single red mangrove refuge (which would increase nutrient export and increase copopods which equals more food for the ruby red dragonet), or make this into a really cool little zoa/paly mini tank... I'm split between the two.
  4. So this really odd thing is happening, I have about 30ish separate zoa/paly colonies in my tank and they are all doing very well except for one variety, I have rastas in two places, a colony on the frag rack and one on the zoa garden I put together. Both of them have shrunken polyps, not closed but just very shrunken polyps, and I just have no idea why they are shrinking, especially when both of them are doing the same thing and none of the other 29 varieties are having issues... Any thoughts/experiences?
  5. Hi guys, first post, I'm looking buy some zoa frags for my zoa garden I'm working on in my new tank, I'm specifically looking for utter chaos, rasta, magician, froot loops, Darth maul, or candy apple reds. I have a couple small neon green birdsnest frags that I'd up for trading too if interested. Thanks in advance!
  6. Hello everyone, Its been three month since I start my aquarium and it finished the cycle within two months. Ammonia, Nitrate, and Nitrite are undetectable. I'm ready to add some corals now. Aquarium parameters Ammonia/Nitrate/Nitrite Untraceble to the test kit Temperature - 77 F (+/- 0.3 F) Specific gravity 1.026 What is in my system now Bought BRS Water saver plus RO/DI unit with the RO reserver tank/faucet (I could justify this to my wife DI unit is seperate- Who can resist clean water ) I have 40 lbs of CaribSea Speacial grade live sand ( it created 1" sandbed) and Dry rock from BRS. 50g Cube 8g sump 20g refugium with 20 lb of live sand (Looking for Macro Algae that won't go sexual) 10g RO/DI reservoir gravity fed with a fixed float valve Oceanreview T247 LED 10" above water surface running blue at 100% (0700 - 2200) and daylight at 50% (1200 - 1900) Skimz mini 143 skimmer Eheim heater I do 20% water changes every week BRS media rector (two chambers) Have two happy fat clowns that I bought in 2013 and the aquarium that hosted them have thousands of Ampe/cope pods which I will carefully transfer to the new sump Plannig to add the followings soon 2 MP10's (will this be over kill? and does any one have MP10 that need to get rid of so I can get them cheap) Calcium reactor: Planning to buy AquaMaxx S-NANO Calcium Reactor ( any other suggestions are welcome) Aquarium monitor and control system (Reefkeeper or APEX? How about Seneye?) Since this is a small tank I'm planning only to keep SPS, LPS (may be 2-3) and few Zoas. Following are what in my mind. They are pictures I got from internet and do not know the names of most of them (Can someone tell me the name of these corals). Obviously I won't be able to host all the SPS in my tank. Following are the cleanup crew I'm planning to order. Nassarius snails - 2 Blackfoot Trochus snail - 1 (After 6 months or if I have algae) Blueleg Hermit - 1 Regleg hermit - 1 Cerith snails - 4 Emerald crab - 1 (Tiny one after 1 year or if I have hair algae) Sand shifting goby - 1 (After 1 year. Can I add this guy since my sand grain size is large. Will the sand hurt it?) Papermint shrimp - 1 (After 6 months) I would prefer to buy the coral from fellow reefers. Please let me know if you would like to sell some frags to me. These are the questions I have now Do I need to run Carbon and/or GFO now? Is it ok to add all corals over a short period of time (one month)? Do I need to increase the intensity of my LED for SPS? Am I giving them enough light without causing an algae issue? Do I need to get an algae scrubber although I have a refugium? I really love green manderin gobies.I had one male manderin a few years back that I trained to eat pallets. One day he decided to end his life, after staying 1.5 years with us, by jumping out (I forgot to add the screen) So I want to give another try with one of these guys may be after a year. Anyone knows a place that sells pallet trained healthy green manderins? Your comments and feedbacks are much appreciated.
  7. Looking for some cheaper frags of LPS, SPS and zoas hopefully in like the 5-10 range or can possibly trade for some. Right now the main thing I have to trade (due to a tank crash that im finally recovering from) is Duncan coral, I have a colony of around 150+ heads that I can frag (usually I sell it for about $8/head unless buying many heads). Let me know what you have and what you want for it. Im really looking for some more torch corals also.
  8. I hope Jesse does not mind me utilizing most of his write up for the rules of the competition. If it is uncalled for please let me know and I will see that it is taken down but if it is fine with you then I must say thank you fro saving me some time and effort, it is appreciated. Well Contestants this is the official thread to post your entries! If you post your entry in another thread it will not count. Contest begins April 20th!You have a week before and a week after to post up your picture. This competition will run 4 months! Ground Rules: The goal of this competition is to be both educational and fun. I am hopeful the winners will be able to share their "secrets" and truly see how different lighting, supplements, dosing, and tank parameters can make a difference in growth. Rules and Guidelines for The TECO Zoa Grow Out Competition. 1.Your first post must include a quick write up of your system in the competition thread. Including tank size, flow, lighting, placement of the frag, frag measurement, equipment (ie calcium reactor, dosing, etc), feeding regiment, etc. 2. You will be required to post photo updates. The contest will start April 20th. You will be required to post a photo update once a month. I will remind you of this when the time is soon to post. I know life gets busy and people go out of town so you have a 2 week window to post. You will have 7 days before the 20th and 7 days after to post your update. If you do not post within the allotted time frame you will be disqualified. 3. Please no cheating. This competition is meant to be fun and for bragging rights. Cheaters will be disqualified and banned from any future competitions(PEDS were not used for Frankenfrag). 4. The frags must remain on the original plug. You may modify the plug if needed example cutting off the stem for placement. You may place the frag anywhere you want in your tank and you may move it to a different spot during the competition but it is frowned upon and you cannot move it to a new tank as the point is to see how the frag does over time in different systems. 5. Initial photos of frags need to have a top down as well as side shot so we can all see the frag and what you are starting with. No hiding zoa polyps in your photos. Not following the rules will cause you to be disqualified, I know that sounds harsh but it is out of fairness to the rest of the group. Remember a lot can happen in 4 months. During the last growout many were DQ'd due to not posting. It's really simple. JUST DO IT. Length of competition: The competition will run for 4 months. This will give us enough time for the frag to grow. A lot can happen in 4 months and a lot of people could drop out, so if you are persistent, you have a chance to win the grand prize. This will give EVERYONE the same advantage\disadvantage with acclimation and so on. Pictures will be required frequently for updates. Final post will be July 20th 2015 for the winner. Judging a winner: Should be pretty straight forward this grow out. The most polyps at the end wins. Winner of each category shall have glorious bragging rights along with the honors of choosing a desired name for their winning polyps. But the Grand Prize is...Coral of course!!! But not going to spoil it yet, you have to play. 9. Signs of zoa stress and how to fix it.. 1. Too much light or being trampled by hermits and snails they will close or look squished, maybe bruised. You want to move them to a darker lower spot or on a ledge that a shell cannot travel to easily :The red Zoas were in to strong of light and just the centers are showing, the bottom ones are all shut on one side, if these happen rearrange them until they reopen again :Either partial shade or lower down than before, sometimes if they reach to tall and look like trumpets it's to little of light. The far right is the same morph in proper lighting 2. Algae can be the death of Zoas : you want to put it somewhere snails can graze, and get a clean up crew that eats the algae if you do not have hermits or a Seahare does great with green hair algae. : if the CUC isn't touching it, pull the algae out with your fingers if it's long enough, or frag up the zoa and clip off the rock surrounding the polyps till you have separated the polyps from the rock and reglue to a new clean live/dry rock 3. Being stung by coral or worms, Sometimes you get spider webs inside the tank or so etching is eating your Zoas :The God or wars (right) are bleached and closed up, maybe have brown or black spots on them from where the Vermitid worm's spider web is stinging them, or maybe it's a sweeper from a coral it will look like this : super glue up the source of the spider webs, it should look like a feather duster hole with 2 antennae reaching out, or move the coral or zoa out of sweeping range. :This photo ^ also shows how I arrange a clear path for hermits to crawl around my Zoas and not over them, steep walls and frags on a plateau will keep them from climbing, but they need an easy route to travel on. (You can see the red skirt Zoas on the left look closed and bruised from being trampled over when the route was clogged with a plug) :Overhangs and channels need to be built in between your rockwork, and you can build in fences to make them go around the long way, see the rocks sticking up on the left used to be the climbing path.
  10. Jody over at TECO has gotten a few nice pieces as of recently including SPS,LPS, and some Zoas\Palys. After taking a gander at those beautiful rocks I thought to myself, Hey, Why not do another Grow out Competition with these bad boys. It has always been fun, even when losing. Depending on the rock we go with there would be a certain number of allotted slots, we would take original frag pictures along with listing some tank specs\parameters, some monthly updates and that is that. I was thinking of just keeping it simple with the old basic rules of number of polyps at end of the competition, say 4 months? I know I already have a few people interested in signing up but to keep it fair I have not put anyone in the comp yet so stay tuned for an update to the thread. I am awaiting some better photos of the possible candidates, exciting isn't it!?
  11. I have about an 10 lb piece of live rock covered in GSP and would like to trade for a similar size of live rock and some corals or rock and anemone, let me know if are interested or have anything for trade. If someone wanted to buy I would sell it for about $80 that way I can replace the fiji live rock and get some coral. I also have a 7lb piece of live rock covered in GSP and pulsing Xenia, im wanting about $70 or trade for that one (also looking for live rock to replace it and coral as well) I also have other corals im fragging: Duncan $5/ head Candy Cane $5/head Frogspawn $8/head. Radioactive Dragons Eye Zoa 4-5 polyps $15 kenya tree $5/small $10/ Large Blowers: JVP 202B 12000 L/H (3200g/h) they have been used briefly, didnt like how much motion was in my 180 so I pulled them out after about a month, cleaned most of the coraline algae off of them but still has a little left, I have 2. really strong magnets to hold them to the tank. New they seem to sell for about 140-180 from what i have seen i dont remember what i paid for them, Will sell them for $100 each, they both work great.
  12. So I hope I don't invite a bidding war by broadcasting these.. But if anyone gets some.. I would really like a frag.. Id pay 25-30 a head, or we can talk something out. These gotta be the best looking zoas, in person, Ive seen in a while.. They're called Rainbow Princess, and are bright pink when closed.. Brighter pink and yellow when open.. A candy apple morph that should spread out to all zoa hoarders if possible.. GoldenBasket really delivers sometimes
  13. Hey can anyone help me name these zoas? i have been told at one point they are Green Bay Packers then also that they are Radio Active Dragons eye. Im new to Zoas and am not to sure i bought them a while ago. then the others (dark green ones) i have no idea other then a green zoa. http://s12.photobucket.com/user/bamburgb42/media/IMG_1859_zps5dfps7fa.jpg.html?sort=3&o=5 http://s12.photobucket.com/user/bamburgb42/media/IMG_1860_zpsra6i8cb2.jpg.html?sort=3&o=6
  14. So I was wondering if this zoa had a name already.. Can't find it anywhere except ones that have orange and pink skirts.. These are mainly green on green but have a similar skirt and polyp type of a Mohawk/ cherry charm/juggernaut type. Or they could be closer to a candy apple with the white slit mouth If no one knows then give me a name suggestion. Hulks? Cactus?
  15. I figured I should get a thread started for trading. There is not a whole lot for coral variety where I am at so I was hoping I could get a few more morphs\types via trading with the community. There are some varieties I would pay for but for the most part I would prefer to trade...If you want to pay for a polyp or two by all means. Right now I am really looking to replace my... Nightmares, TECO Forbidden Fruits, Goldslaugers, This does not mean that there are not a number of types I want but do not know it yet, if I do not have it it is worth a shot to see if I do want it.. I tend to find things I like about every coral and I do like subdued colors and pastels. I know for a fact that there are several members right here that have a large number of zoas I would like to have in my tank. Sasquatch , Clark, Bomber, you know who you are. The thing is I live aaallll the way in Corvallis Oregon so keep that in mind, I can ship out if needed but I don't get out much due to children\health problems. Meeting up at a PNWMAS gathering or Local Fish Store is the other means to cross paths with me as I have been know to find my way to the coral shops when I get to pass through a city..
