    Great question!

Simple answer is that I didn’t have access to 150 gallons of water.  The issue had been ongoing for 20 hours, and the earliest I would have been able to source that volume for a water change would have been another 13 or 14 hours in the future.

Even if I had turned on the RO unit immediately, we did not have a container even remotely large enough to mix salt in, even the bathtub is too small.  That said, I am making progress with my wife on her agreement to getting at least 100 gallons of water storage containers for installation.

Anyone looking for water storage tanks (for RO/DI or saltwater mixing stations) can find a huge selection at Green Concepts Container in Gresham.  They advertise on Craigslist:  https://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/grd/d/gresham-drinking-potable-waterfood/7726165135.html

This is where I bought my two 75 gallon storage tanks.  If you have the space, get storage tanks with the capacity for at least a 100% water change on your aquarium setup for emergency situations like this.

  2. What a great day!  Thank you @Brittany for organizing and hosting the meeting.  Your home and tank are both stunningly beautiful, and we couldn’t have hoped for better weather.

We’re spending the rest of the weekend in Netarts and had a perfect view of the sunset on the beach this evening.

@Brittany, can you confirm that is the correct address?  When I look at Google Maps, there is a Whiskey Creek Shellfish Hatchery, and also a Whiskey Creek Fish Hatchery.  They are two miles apart from each other.  I think the address you posted is the Fish Hatchery, not the Shellfish Hatchery.  Which one is correct?

  5. Posting this in the Out Of Bounds forum.

Is anyone planning to travel to see the total solar eclipse that will cross North America on April 8th?  I just booked a trip to Dallas TX to see it, so I'm crossing my fingers for clear skies.

I have only seen two other total eclipses in my life, but only one with clear skies to see the entire event.  My first one was in Australia in 2012, but the sky was mostly cloudy so I never got a good view.  But in 2017 I saw the most spectacular view from Silverton, OR with perfectly clear skies, and I'm totally hooked on seeing another one.  This one will last over 4 minutes compared to only 2 minutes in 2017.

    Here's the path:

Here are some of my photos from 2017:

Can also use it as a CORS 20 backup if the buyer has a CORS 20 already.  They are the same pump.

I can confirm this is correct.  The pump body is the same for both models.  Only the controller module that connects to it is different and the COR 20 includes a separate power adapter:

Great idea to keep a backup!

    I use a 10 inch Amazon tablet

FYI, the Apex Display Module has specific functionality not available through any kind of tablet, phone, or computer running the Fusion app.  Because the Display Module plugs directly into the Apex via an AquaBus cable, it can communicate and function even without any network connection.  The Display module can be particularly useful since it can show the current IP address, username, and password for the Apex which is not available through the normal Fusion interface or the Apex Classic dashboard.  This comes in extremely handy when working with a 2nd-hand Apex when you don't know its password.

  8. Posting this in Out of Bounds for obvious reasons.

As a native of Detroit (born and raised there, moved to Oregon when I was 21), I've been a life-long Lions fan even though it typically ends in disappointment.  I honestly never thought I'd see the day that the Lions might be on the verge of a Super Bowl opportunity.  Anyone else out there feeling as excited and optimistic as I am???

    Go Lions!

Are you SURE this is the same bus?   In your photo last night, the back tires (with the chains) are in the air, sticking out in the road.   In this photo, the front tires (without the chains) are in the air, sticking into the road.      Both good photos.

I agree with @cjmdh.  You can clearly see #3211 in the nighttime photo, and on the daytime photo the "3" is visible on the side and the "211" is visible on the front.  The tire position change is likely due to their effort to move the bus in the time between the two photos.  All the other logo stickers in each window also match up.

We've moved on from being aquarists to weather traffic accident forensics. 🤣

  10. While some of you lost power over the weekend, it looks like tomorrow may put more of us at risk due to freezing rain that could knock down more trees and power lines.  I highly recommend you spend today or early tomorrow morning preparing for the worst.  If you have a generator, please test it today.  If you don't have one, you might consider shopping for one today while there's a chance.

At a minimum, have a plan for water movement and heating.

    Good luck, and stay safe!

  11. Glad your house wasn’t damaged.

I still think my whole-house generator was one of my best investments, even now that I no longer have the aquarium.  And I love that it automatically runs a self test each month and sends me health reports.  Total peace of mind!
