  1. Hi Everyone, The 22 gallon tank has two clownfish and large and very happy plate coral, a lot of other soft coral whose name I don’t know, and an anemone that the clownfish like. The pump seems to leak out of the tubing. It is likely that just replacing the tubing might fix that problem. If I don’t watch it all the time, it drips. The tank when at school is amazing, and the kids really love it. It is just getting to be a real challenge to manage in my house. Help any time is welcome. Thank you, Katriba

Contacting me at my work email would be great. For some reason I am not getting alerts from the forum. Thank you, Katrina kdeboer@pps.net
  4. Well, this is not what I was expecting when wanted to know about a crabby crab. I, quite honestly, know almost nothing about keeping a salt water tank. This is a school sponsored tank and, sadly, our person moved recently. If those corals need to go, is there anyone that would be willing to help with this when we are out of social distancing restrictions? Maybe when the tank needs to move again in the late summer? I definitely don’t need to accidentally poison myself, family, or my students. Katrina
  5. Thank you, everyone. 1. The offending crab is an emerald crab. My daughter says it was seen taking a broken off piece of the live coral and eating it in its cave. 2. The offending hermit crab is red, but a blue one joined the snail buffet after the snail was already dead. There are a lot of various sized shells. The hermits are just jerks. 3. And finally, what is the concern with the palys? Katrina
  6. Hi All, Does anyone know how to get the little blue crab in my tank to stop eating the plating coral in the picture? It just started chowing down in the coral this week. The hermit crabs decimated the snail with the claw last week. My kids did not appreciate seeing the hermit crabs literally tearing the snail up... or maybe they did enjoy it. It is hard to tell. My 3 peppermint shrimp have all disappeared... I am not sure what it happening. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Katrina
  7. Beach’s School tank is home for the rest of the school year. 😔 The good news is, I have been able to see the nighttime activity for the first time in ages! It’s time for some more aiptasia mitigation. We had a successful (and unsuccessful) stint with a very hungry file fish. He was great at eating the aiptasia until they were mostly gone. Then it started eating everything. The students really loved its dinosaur-like appearance and were sad when he was returned to the shop. In the weeks since the pesky aiptasia have come back with a vengeance. The 3 replacement peppermint shrimp don’t seem up for the task. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Katrina
  8. The kids names our new clown fish Odysseus and Penelope. The kids are completely enamored and enjoy visiting them daily. Even more importantly, they have already helped calm so many upset children and helped them get back to their learning. Thank you so much for such an amazing gift. Katrina
  9. The line snail is very exciting, but this kid can’t wait for some fish. Thank you.
