  2. Help me decide!!!

I have a bucchochromis rhodesii already And he is just starting to color up and push some of the other fish around. People diss on freshwater but big chiclid tanks have lots of stuff going on in there. Lots of dynamics and power struggles going on. My big blood dragon (bottom left in photo) used to be THE biggest D*^* in the world in the old tank but since the change up there is a serious gangland style feud going on between him and "boris" the red fin borlei going on.
  3. Help me decide!!!

ok, I can't seem to decide where to put my new 200g DD tank. The girlfriend/wife (we need a better word for that) says put it in the living room so we can enjoy it. Pros: -we can look at it more often - wow factor for visitors - leaves basement as game room for kids (which substantially reducds dad saying "would you shut that [language filter] xbox off" Cons: - its carpeted - geisseman light at eye level in the family room. - my salt mixing station is in the basement - sump and fuge limited to size of cab. (4x3) I am more and more inclined to set up a fish room in the basement. Pros: - tons of room for everything - sump and fuge size only limited by...well, just trying to stay this side of ridiculous - no hauling water up stairs. - waterproof floors Cons: - cool fish tank.... in the basement :( - probably spend less time looking at it - things could get out of hand.. i.e. basement looking like a fish store with pipes and tank and things everywhere. Advice? here are pictures of the family room and basement locations. (yes, my lagoon tank is currently in the basement) thanks gang!! Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  4. Help me decide!!!

thanks for the advice everyone. i think Im goinh to spend some time this weekend in the crawlspace and drilling peep holes in some drywall. i think there may be a way to plumb a basemeny sump. then i can buy a reeflo barracuda and finally become a real man oh yeah.. the 8' hap/peacock tank.. 5. Help me decide!!!

i have looked at two different ways to plumb it downstairs. they both involve either plumbing going across the ceiling of the pool table room OR .. cutting a man door sized chunk of concrete out of a stem wall and digging out a crawl space and making a weatherproof room under the deck. As I told Dawn this morning.. I bought a 3,600 sq. ft. house so I wouldnt have to be digging out crawl spaces and building walls for my hobbies. (as i type this i am staring at a 130' long trench for the wires to the hot tub). side bar... if you ever think to yourself "ya know, my hands should be sore" or "I have to much skin on my knuckles" then grab three strands of #4 aluminum wire and shove them through conduit out the garage, down the wall and under the stairs. 7. 1000 gallon system!

phew!! I saw the first pics and i had this feeling of dread. Its funny how the warm air seeks out the cold spots. well, not funny, its simple physics but people don't think about physics for the most part. The room looks dope as hell!! I'm envious. I have a huge man cave I just installed waterproof floors in but the wife wants the 200 gallon tank upstairs... I am so tempted to put it in the basement though. No carpeting, big mixing station, frag tanks, work station. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  8. sweet deal on stock tank

not mine but I spied this on CL. Good deal on a solid tank.. https://portland.craigslist.org/clk/for/d/rubbermaid-100gal-water/6312718485.html
  9. 1000 gallon system!

sweet build!! One word of caution.. and I realize this is a little late. You never, ever, never put fiberglass insulation against a concrete wall. Now you have the situation where warm and moist air will be drawn to your cold concrete walls.. and bang.. it condensates on the concrete wall and soaks the insulation. I don't mean to be a buzz kill or anything, I am trying to help. At this point, it would behoove you to pull the covers off your outlets and put spray foam in the openings where the wires come in. You need to make sure that the vapor barrier is as air tight as you can possible make it. Whats done is done but you know what they say.. an ounce of prevention. When I rebuilt my basement the former owner did the same thing and there were huge swaths of mold on the walls and insulation emanating from every outlet. If anyone wants to finish a basement fish room it goes.. basement wall, rigid foam with taped seams, then 2x4, insulation, and drywall. At any rate.. I'm excited to see this monster tank!!!
  10. internal or external skimmer

hey gang, I was hoping to get a little info on the benefits/downsides of an external skimmer. I need a skimmer for my new 200 gallon sps tank. I was looming at the reef octopus 3000 internal or the mrc mr3 or an MTC mvx30. All of them get great reviews but i have read the venturi designs are more effective. The issue is my stand is om the shorter side so perhaps an external.design woukd be better? any advice is appreciated!! Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  13. internal or external skimmer

yeah, i have to admit external is a little scary and the tank is on carpeting :( so seems like internal is the way to go. so hard to decide with all the options available. maybe I will run the reef ocotpus 2000 i have and see if it keeps up with thr new tank Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  15. Black box leds are awesome!

photons are definitely photons.. the problem being the black boxes send then all to one isolated spot. they work for sure, i mean, if you are happy with your tank then that is what really matters. what i liked about the video is that it quantitatively showed they are far inferior to other lights in terms of coverage. plus... non UL listed equipment hanging over a SALT WATER environment? I am the leaat risk adverse person you will likely ever meet but even I have my limits. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  19. Generator Extension Cord

plastic is tasty but rubber... yumm! i was a kid, maybe like 8? and my dad told me to get the snowmobiles ready for winter. i had kind of forgot to put plywood around my snowmobile during the summer. i opened the hood of the snowmobile and this possum stood up and hissed at me. I almost shat myself! after dispatching the offender with my bow and arrow i discovered he ate EVERYTHING! Belts, ignition wires, switch wires.. so yeah... no free hanging wires in your crawl space Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  20. Generator Extension Cord

if i can chime in.. you most certainly do not want to run an extension cord in your crawl space. things (small mammals) will find it a tasty snack. It will be cheaper to buy a small roll of 12/2 MC cable (that is the flexible metal conduit) and a metal duplex outlet and do it properly. again.. this would be for a temporary thing. power goes out, you run it and use it then put it away when you are done. Neither romex or mc cable is rated for exterior use. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

  25. Hawaiian Fish Ban

i know allot of you folks don't want to hear it, but there are some very ugly sides to the industry. If you think everyone in the trade has the health of the fish in the forefront of your mind then you are sadly mistaken. I do not know what is going on in Hawaii but I do know that courts don't shut down an entire industry without some evidence to support it. If it puts pressure on people to decrease mortality I am all for it. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
