Welcome! I also started out with freshwater (since age 8 actually) then decided to turn one of freshwater tanks into saltwater and have never looked back! The LA Fish Guys video was definitely one of the videos I watched over and over, I ended up buying some Mighty Mesh and it worked flawlessly. It took some practice, you definitely have to start with a low grit and work your way up, I started with 800 and worked my way up to 12,000. I didn't have any really deep scratches though. I took my time and worked each area, the tough part I noticed was deciding if it was ok to start the next grit but I thought it ended up 100 percent better than it looked at the beginning. I finished it off with Novus and an acrylic buffing pad. Since I've buffed it I've had a couple scratches happen and I've buffed them out with my algae free Hammerhead and some mighty mesh and it's actually pretty easy, it gives me peace of mind knowing I can just buff them out under water now. One thing I also learned you sand your previous work away with the next step sandpaper so taking your time and making sure you completely get rid of the previous sanding with the next grit is important or you'll end up with fine scratches, and that means you didn't completely remove the previous work. Kind of a pain to learn but the end is worth it, I've never done anything like that but it's nice knowing I'll be able to keep it scratch free for as long as I decide to keep it, having this tank has made me really like acrylic tanks. No worrying about seams bursting or resealing over time like with glass tanks. A lot of people use regular wet dry sandpaper and run a hose on low to keep the tank wet and just do it outside, it seems to work great. If your tank is up and running though and you don't want to drain it it's definitely worth it to buy the mighty mesh, I decided to drain it and use the mighty mesh so I could use my Hammerhead. I didn't have much in that tank at the time so it wasn't a big deal to just move it to a different tank temporarily. Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk

Lol that's why I had to stop putting corals on the sand bed, they would end up buried or in a cave and I'd end up having to rescue them. Eventually ended up finding a new home for my Goby and Pistol Shrimp pair, I loved those guys but it was nice being able to put corals on the sand again lol Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk

I've actually had a heater split on me in my first tank, thank goodness I didn't have much in it yet. On another tank I had a heater get stuck in the on position and cooked my tank, lost almost everything that time.. I now use the Inkbird or other types of temp controllers in my tanks for at least some peice of mind and it helps keep my temp constant so that's a huge plus too. Another thing I've started doing is spreading corals throughout my tanks so if something does happen (fingers crossed it doesn't) I'll have the same corals in different tanks. Yeah, definitely recommend have someone do it! I recently broke down and buffed and polished my 50 gallon acrylic tank and it was definitely a project, I'd never done it before so I had to do a ton of research and bought a ton of supplies. Now I have the supplies to buff out scratches under water with the tank set up so that's pretty cool, I can do it with my Algae Free magnet cleaner and Mighty mesh, I'm so happy I did it, it looks absolutely amazing now. I can definitely see it going much smoother and faster with someone doing it that actually has experience and knows what they're doing! I actually posted an ad myself trying to find someone to do it but didn't have any luck finding anyone. Someone did mention trying a boat company that works on boats, I thought that was a pretty good idea but at that point I'd already decided to give it a go myself. Anyway good luck, hopefully you will be able to find someone to do it for you! So I accidentally ordered two of these and only need one, I didn't realize I had already added one to my shopping cart previously.. Anyway it's hand made by Marc Levenson of Melevsreef which is pretty cool! They works great for either an AFS Auto feeder for Apex or an Eheim Auto feeder, also heard it work for other brands as well but can't be positive, the only ones I know for certain is Eheim Auto feeder or AFS for Apex. If you use autofeeders but hate watching the majority of the food go down the overflow this thing works awesome! It looks pretty cool too. It keeps all the food from going directly down the overflow, it comes with extra Velcro brand Velcro strips to hold the Auto feeder chimney in place and you can put Velcro on the auto feeder to keep it on place as well. Most people place it on their overflow, I'm using it for an acrylic tank so it's great I can put it anywhere. Will trade for corals or maybe a BTA? I've already covered shipping costs! I feel you on this one, it reminds me of a time a couple years ago when I traded a regular ORANGE ricordia to a guy that used to be a member (I haven't seen him on here for a couple years) and a few months later he advertised some RED Ricordia mushrooms with pictures, we set up a time to meet and I took it home and realized that it was the same ORANGE Ricordia I had traded to him a couple months back [emoji23] that part I didn't care about, we all get corals and change our minds, what bothered me was that he tried passing it off as something it clearly wasn't, I believe he must have gotten a picture off the internet or something of a Red one and thought maybe he could get something worth more for it? After putting in my tank it was clearly identical to the ones I already had, just regular ORANGE ones [emoji848] when I tried messaging to see if maybe he gave me the wrong one he completely ignored me lol. It really wasn't a huge deal, but it still irritated me that he wasn't up front about what it really was. I think he had an oh s**t moment when he saw me and realized I was the person he originally got it from, I remember saying "hey didn't I trade to you a couple months back?" I didn't even notice it wasn't red until I got it in my tank lol. I really do think he just got a picture of a Red one off the internet and hoped he could get away with getting something worth a little more for it. They just look like feather dusters to me, if you don't like them you can easily remove them. You've got some serious hair algae going on too! I'd start pulling out as much as possible by hand if I were you, maybe get some Phosphate RX first, wait for the algae to weaken then it's super easy to remove. Sorry I know you were asking about the feather dusters but your hair Algae looks pretty bad, I'd personally be more worried about that. Once you've removed as much as possible by hand (will take time) you can also use a small tube attached to a small pump and suck it out once you've weakened it, then get yourself a bunch of hermits and maybe an Urchin to take care of the rest.
