  1. Commonly, the PAR readings on lighting websites are measured in air and only air. It might be the combination of both the distance from the water, the intensity and location of the light. You should see if you get the same PAR readings with the light in only air. Glad to heart the corals are doing well.
  2. I was looking around for acclimation videos and found this interview with Reef2Reef and Steve Tyree: There isn't a whole lot going on in the video (because it's an interview), but there is a lot of good information being said. I just threw it on in the background and listened to it. Definitely have a better understanding of the pests you might find and dipping corals.
  3. Huh. Ok. Thanks for letting me know. There is always much to learn.
  4. Glad you could make it. Your tanks are coming along great. That Nuvo 8 has SPS in it? Wow.
  5. Usually when I see something like that, it is either light bleaching or something bad in my tank happened. Keep in mind, mine are much smaller. :P I just had a feeling it may have been something else. Intensive transport would make sense, or the shock to new lighting. How long did you have that piece before you threw it under LED's?
  6. I'm curious. What do you think was the original cause of lack of color? It looks beautiful.
  7. TPA is always a fun place to go. There is always something new and interesting to see. I would advise anyone to stop by.
  8. I can see it now. The moment when someone stops you from cleaning the beach: **You reach down to pick up an old water bottle on the beach** Someone yells, "Hey! Put that down." You reply, "What?! Why?" They say, "Because that's its natural habitat. Did you know these are going extinct?" You say, "What? The water bottle?" "Yeah, those things are hardly even made anymore. Do you really think you'll see these opportunistic creatures in the future?" You say, "Well, yes. Duh."
  9. Totally. PM sent. They want people to register for numbers and to agree to their safety waiver form. Just click the link above for Gleneden beach and click the "Register" button on the right. If you don't, I imagine bags will still be there. No one will stop you from cleaning the beach. :P
  10. I went and registered on the SOLVE Oregon webpage for site "Gleneden Beach Wayside Cleanup." SOLVE says that they will be dropping bags off at the site and all I have to do is show up (and maybe bring a change of clothes). I hope you all try to make it out, and if not, try a location closer to your home. Let me know if you are going. I would love to see you there.
  11. Now don't let this be another finding nemo. I can tell this is already getting out of hand.
  12. It is a humongous upgrade. Three years of really hot summers in the making. I got the AI Hydra 52's. It isn't about the ramp up and ramp down, but the intensity of the LED's. 20% on the Hydra's is equivalent to the T12's I was running. 40% is equivalent to the metal halide (and T12's), but that never ran all day. With my work/school schedule, I am always gone when the lights change cycles. If I put it on a timer, then they would run at 100% intensity whenever they came. That's the dilemma. For now, I am just going to change the time I turn them on and off. That way I am always here when it happens.
  13. Looking to buy a used Aqua Illumination Director. I realized that with a regular timer, on restart the AI's come on full blast. A royal pain when you are starting out at 20% intensity. If there is anyone out there that has one lying around, I would love to take it off your hands. Thank you.
  14. This has been floating around for a couple days. Brian was trying to get rid of the Apex. He said it was in great condition. http://www.pnwmas.org/topic/37218-120-gallon-premium-part-out-high-end-equip/
  15. Received some of the equipment today from Brian. Well worth the trip. The prices were very reasonable and I think we both left happy. I'd do business with him any day. He definitely knows his stuff.
  16. The only way I could come up with is use a grinder for the edges and file it from there. Acrylic makes more sense. @Salty What do you plan to do for the stand? Custom build it? It sounds like you have a plan.
  17. Huh. I can imagine it is pretty hard to cut a rectangle in the middle of a piece of glass. I don't even know how you would do it. Can't wait to see it come to fruition.
  18. Those triple RFA shots are striking. Good job.
  19. I have never seen an overflow in the center of a tank. Where did you get it?
  20. Wow I feel like I am already there. Hope this coming event can be just as exciting.
  21. I don't know how the sock is mounted, but you might be able to raise it off the water line more. That way there is more surface area out of the water and gravity can do its job. Although, filter socks get dirty. You have to clean them often. I clean mine every 2-3 days.
  22. Jameco and Digikey are good websites to order electronic parts from. Jameco has the option of ordering LEDs one at a time, while Digi-Key is usually many per single order. On a quick search, they both had high-powered LED's in many colors.
  23. Alright. The time is coming near. After looking through the SOLVE Oregon page, there are three cleanups happening in Lincoln city on the 26th. 03.26.2016 SW 51st Cleanup Lincoln City Volunteers Needed 03.26.2016 Gleneden Beach Wayside Cleanup Lincoln Beach Volunteers Needed 03.26.2016 Road's End Beach Wayside Cleanup Lincoln City Volunteers Needed http://solveoregon.org/get-involved/volunteer-event It seems like they are all from 10am-1pm. Would anyone want to carpool or meet up at one of these locations?
