  1. I wish. It would make all of our lives a lot simpler. There are a lot of factors that affect pH and as Baroose_Le said there is no direct relationship. I would believe even that planted tank table would be way off with saltwater having such high concentrations of varying ions from tank to tank. I'd probably decide on the level of accuracy you want and go find a test kit to match. The cheaper ones (no titration kit) are less accurate and the higher the price tag the more accuracy you'll get. Edit: Commonly.
  2. Brian, Thanks for being persistent. I have been very busy. I'll make sure to post it on time next round.
  3. Kknight is her username. You can find it under the board members here: http://www.pnwmas.org/page/officersandboard2017.html
  4. Awww. Congratulations! Let's see some baby pictures.
  5. I knew you weren't old enough to be drinking that alcoholic beverage at the December meet. Happy Birthday, Holly!
  6. Unhealthy eating exists for all people. Skinny or fat. It's crazy how easy it is to fall into the cycle of obsessing about weight. It almost makes you want to eat more. I used to binge eat and go running for few hours to compensate, then you feel even hungrier and want more food. The key is to stop the cycle from the root of the problem, and talking about it helps you find it. Thanks for sharing your stories. Please keep me updated.
  7. Happy Birthday! Don't have too much fun.
  8. It's great to see how far you've come. Keep up the hard work. Losing weight isn't easy. This may be a surprise to a lot of you, but I have also had weight issues. I was a horrible binge eater for years. A pizza, two orders of chinese, two dozen bakes cookies and cinnamon sticks to go was a common Friday night. Probably a 2L in there somewhere. I know how hard it can be to manage what you eat and control what goes in your body. It took a lot of talking and being open about it for it to stop. You two seem like the type of people that are dedicated to accomplishing your goals. Make it happen. Your dreams are the limit.
  9. That is really interesting and something I have never heard of. In the Puget Sound, I know there is a lot of Cadmium/Mercury issues in shellfish, along with other heavy metals. Although, that is a human caused issue. This seems to be a natural process caused from diatoms and it looks to be on a cycle every ~10-13 years (second link). I wonder how long we have been recording levels of it. You might be able to get away with feeding them when we aren't in a high concentration year. It doesn't look like I would try feeding them this year.
  10. Those are the unhealthiest corals I have ever seen!
  11. Honestly, I don't think you will need to for a while. I think that if you use Carbon or GFO too early, you might starve the system of nutrients. Give it a couple months. Sure. Although, you run a higher risk of something happening. Things in this hobby happen slowly. I did put corals in my tank within the first month, but added them very slowly. I noticed in my 5 gallon on campus, that whenever I reboot the tank if I add too many at once it tends to cause problems. I bet one Ocean Revive will be enough for your tank, since it is a cube and it will happily cover everything. Maybe get the PAR meter on the forum and see if it is adequate. Here is the PAR meter link: http://www.pnwmas.org/topic/36667-quantum-par-meter-muli-test-meter-booking-thread/ Algae scrubbers are never a bad idea. I think floating some macro in the refugium will work just fine, but an algae scrubber will work more efficiently. I don't have any experience with Mandarins, but I know there are a lot of great fish stores all across Oregon. Portland has Cuddlefish, Golden Basket, Upscales and many, many more. Salem and Wilsonville have TPA.
  12. That's insane. I've never seen one of those.
  13. Woot! Woot! I can't wait for this raffle. I want one of these for the office, so bad.
  14. That looks great. I've always loved the Barrier Reef. It's kind of tucked away, so it's surprising to see so much reefing stuff in one place. Its definitely worth the trip.
  15. When I first went into this place, I couldn't believe how well put together it was. Make a trip out there. You won't be let down.
  16. Wow! That's pretty cool. I can't wait to upgrade. I don't know what fish owner isn't. :P As for re-using the old subtrate, I would steer away from using all of the sand, unless you wash it. A lot of crud can build up in the sand (poisonous crud) and cause harm to other life. I think the ultimate way to seed the new tank would be live rock, with a good amount of old sand. With the new tank size, I imagine that you will be getting new sand anyway, unless it is bare-bottom....because who doesn't like a bare bottom.
  17. Hey! Glad you could make it. You should definitely try to make it to the December Meeting. There are some pretty sweet raffle items. http://www.pnwmas.org/topic/39219-pnwmas-december-meeting/
  18. Happy Thanksgiving. A slice of pumpkin pie a day will keep the doctor away.
  19. That's crazy! If I wasn't so far, I would definitely make my way up there.
  20. I wouldn't say that there is "supposed" to be gag gifts, but they do tend to appear. Some other gifts from last year were, frag plugs, calcium and magnesium dosing solutions, fish food. In general, aquarium stuff with the chance of a gag gift.
