    September Club Meeting!

Hey everyone, Just a heads up to make it to the September club meet! It's going to be a good one. I'll be giving a talk about the basics of fluorescent proteins or in reality, what makes coral glow. I thought this would be a cool interactive website to help you put in perspective what protein causes the glowing and let you interact with it on your own time. If you are a bit confused, come to the talk and I'll explain it in more detail. http://www.rcsb.org/pdb/explore/jmol.do?structureId=1EMA&opt=3&bionumber=1 *Non-mobile device required.

    Need some help

Hmm. Where are you located? If you are close, I'd be happy to help. Although, I think it would be important to note that you can get rid of majanos without removing everything. I think Kalkwasser will work or a high powered laser.

September Picture of the Month - Corallimorphs

I actually like this one a lot more because it is solely a corallimorph.

What do you think did this?

The second picture looks a lot fresher than the first. Maybe you can track the bread crumbs back to why it was newer... What's the water parameters?

I actually don't have much right now, but you probably can probably seed them from a local members macro algae.

  18. Here are the rules: • One photo entry per person • Pic has to be taken by YOU • Must be in by the posted deadline • Must follow subject guidelines for the month Winners will be determined based on voting poll results after submission deadline. This months subject: Symbiosis of at least two critters. I'm going to be strict for this POTM. Please make sure it is at least two critters that are working together for the greater cause. Not two fish feeding, not a starfish on a snail and definitely not bristle-worms eating leftovers. Real symbiosis. You will be disqualified otherwise. Deadline: I am going to try to be better on this one. September 1st

    Vodka dosing.

I think xmas has it right. Why do you want to do it? In my experience of doing it for 4-6 months, in the end, it didn't help anything. Sure, it brought down phosphates and nitrates, but I later found out that I could achieve the same results with activated carbon. Also, coming off of a vodka bender is no fun. You'll get spikes in nitrates or phosphates and if you miss a day, it also spikes.
