My dad and I both run versions of RODI straight to a float value on the tank. My dads setup: RODI literally straight to a float valve in the sump. He has had it like this for over 10 years and has never had an issue. My setup: my dads was a little too risky for me. So I go from RODI to a always closed marine solenoid (cheap on Amazon’s). The solenoid is controlled by an electronic float valve. Once the electronic float valve says “open” the solenoid opens and allows water to flow which then goes to a float valve in the sump. In my mind this has roughly three safety steps. 1) the solenoid is always off this cutting the flow off. 2) say it gets stuck on. There is then a mechanical float valve to close off the water. 3) my electronic float value has a back up so if the water level ever gets too high, the power to the solenoid gets cut off. This cutting flow off again. I have been running my setup for about a year. Here is a photo of my setup. What does everyone use their reef lights for....other than reefing..?? My parents goats recently had kids and we set up a temporary kidding barn. Well they needed a light for the barn and I had an extra LED with burnt out diodes [emoji23] so the goats are getting sunshine inside for now! On another note, look at how cute these little guys are! I run a few different T5 combos over my tanks. My 75 gallon is two Kessil 360s and two blue plus. Personally I’m not a fan of T5 because I love the shimmer/color of LEDs. So I run my T5 while I’m at work and when I get home they turn off and I get to view my tank how I like it. But the corals benefit from the spectrum the Blue + bulbs put off. Now jump to my dads tank. He has a 180 and runs 3 kessils 360s with two coral plus bulbs. The kessils are cranked all the way up with blue and the tank is still super white. But that’s how he likes it and he gets great coral growth. On my frag tank I run just 4 T5 bulbs and will be changing it to LED soon. But I run 3 blue + and one Purple + on that. Other than not liking T5 to start, I would say the color of the tank is good. So long story short, I would recommend getting two blue + bulbs. And if it’s to blue for you, just have them turn off when you get home I believe that blue + bulbs give off the best spectrum. I’ll try to grab some pics of the tanks today. It is! Going to be offloading about 80% of these frags to a wholesaler. Plan to start collecting something else, had zoas for as long as I can remember haha. I was bummed I missed it. Well I haven’t done much since my last update [emoji28] Frag tank finally got clean up today. Made some 300+ zoa frags. Little before and after... 75 is just trucking along. Definitely a branching hammer. Torch has different tentacles. Very nice hammer colony though.
