This is it in Jeff's main tank like the day after I brought it in. It was definitely still acclimating, and it would get much more transparent when super happy, just like the ones you've got.

Unfortunately I don't know its history before I got it. I got it for free from someone that was quitting the hobby and it was maybe an inch across. He said he bought it a few years before that (I think) and it hadn't really grown at all. The more I think about it, the more I think it likely is the same one. They seem to never do well in captivity, except that one, and I know someone in the Seattle area picked it up almost immediately after I traded it in.

Do you happen to know where the person you got them from got them? It looks a whole lot like the giant ritteri I sold to Cuttlefish a few years back (12-14" fully extended). Jeff said someone came down from the Seattle area within a couple days of me trading it in, so I'm wondering if the one became six 😄 Mostly just curious, but I do kind of nostalgically want to pick up one of the pieces, though I'm not 100% 🙂

Totally true. I looked a little at buying the acrylic myself, and the material cost alone was about the same or more than I paid James to make the whole thing (60"x 24"x 24" with internal plumbing and overflow, included bulkheads). I looked over every seam before I filled it up, and couldn't find a single bubble or imperfection anywhere. He also said he uses thicker acrylic than is usually recommended, specifically so there is little to no flexing, and scratches can be removed without biting into the structural parts of the tank.

We finally upgraded to our new tank, and need the old one to go away. It's a nice looking 30"x 30"x 24" cube, but it definitely needs some TLC. It's got quite a few shallow scratches that could be buffed out fairly easily, but more importantly there is a pretty large amount of crazing on the front panel Stand and canopy are included, which were both built by Brian57. He said the tank was made by someone on the forums too, but I don't recall who it was. It also still has the MH ballast, reflector, and bulb that we got with the tank. The canopy was built to house the MH reflector, so it works very well in there. I also just checked the kit out, and it turns on and gets real bright, so it seems like it's still good. With all the crazing on it, I don't know that you'd want to use it as a DT without replacing the panel, but you could use it for a big sump, an awesome terrarium, or use the MH and make it a comically oversized frag tank. Ideally, I'd love to get some nice SPS frags or something in trade for it, but really we just need it off the porch :P

If you're cool with an acrylic tank, Envision is out near Newberg and makes some of the best custom tanks you can buy. While it is acrylic, the plus side is that you don't need to pay for shipping.

Is the tank setup still for sale? I'm upgrading to a 150g and need a new sump, and 75 gallon is about what I'm looking for.

I've got a bunch of stuff you can have. briareum (bright green gsp) hairy mushrooms green toadstool kenya tree tan anthelia palys/zoas. Some green\purple, some orange speckled. german blue digi I have more than I know what to do with of all of those, so it's yours for the taking. I could probably also get you a couple more things depending on how much work it'd take to get them out. Everything I listed above is pretty much ready to go whenever.

I've always just gotten mine at A-Boy or George Morlan plumbing. The only thing I wasn't able to get there was pvc gate valves.

Those look great. Might I ask where you had those chips made? I'd like to switch over to 2-3 custom chips and I really like those ones.

I've had one running for the last year-ish. It took a while for it to get up to speed, but now it makes a huge difference on algae growth in the main tank. I don't have any current pictures of it on hand, but here's one from when I set it up. I ended up cutting a little over half off the screen, and it's been growing great ever since. I've got a pair of red led grow lights with light diffusers on them (regular, not eggcrate) pointing at the main faces. It does a good job of pulling most of the phosphates out of my tank, and definitely helps with the water change intervals, but it's not quite as amazing as some people on the internet would have you believe.

I can drop by after work to pick up #2 or #3, assuming at least one of them is still available. I'm near Powell's downtown, so I can just jet over to SW when I'm out. Send me a PM and we can figure out what works best.

Sorry to jump in here, but I labeled each of the valves to help describe how this works: The regular valve options are as such: OPEN CLOSED PUMP RESULT B,C A,E,F,D ON Pumping fresh water to salt reservoir C,E A,B,F,D ON Mixing salt water (pulls water from the bottom and spits it into the top) A B N/A Fresh water flowing out of valve A (to a bucket or whatever) F E OFF Salt water flowing out of valve F (again to a bucket or whatever) Those are the primary four states you'd want to have the valves in, though there are a bunch of other things you could do with them that I wouldn't recommend. As an example, if you had both B and E open, the levels in the two tanks would equalize, and you would likely get salt into your fresh reservoir. Obviously, if I didn't list a valve as open or closed, it's inconsequential for the result listed. Valve D seems to be connected to a flex tube nipple, which I would assume is used to rapidly pump water out directly to the tank or something (probably for water changes and the like). The RO/DI water flows into the fresh water container directly through the blue pipe at the top.

Mostly just irregular gravity, ranging from 1.018-1.028 (through usually around 1.024). I did have a couple of instances of minor phophate level increases, but it's possible that's not related. Nothing that would really cause any problems, but it kind of encouraged me to go the home RO route. I pretty much only ever bought saltwater there since it was on my way home from work, so it might be within the regular margin of error.

Pets on Broadway has it, though I'm not convinced on their quality.
