You we're right it was a boy... I work at a salmon hatchery and handle 300-400 adult fish a week. When checking sex we do a three point check because the face on some females will have a slightly hooked upper jaw so you can't always go off that feature. We check snout (length, width and if hooked), belly (round or skinny), and vent (whether it protrudes when squeezed).
