  1. Welcome to the forum, the people here are really cool, most are very knowledgable also! I agree with going slow, the best advice I could give some one in the transition stage is to buy everything you need well before you plan to start your build. Take time in thinking out the plumbing, lighting, water flow, rock work, etc or it will sneak up and bite you in the butt later!

  2. Most people just move their rock way too much...but if you must move it, I'd recommend leaving the base pieces as moving these could release some toxic anaerobic bacteria, or worse hydrogen sulfate...

Run some fresh carbon when you move it.

That's my plan! Glad I was on the right track. I have two large base pieces, one in each corner, I'm going to try and leave those alone, creat the island look, and have a little more opening in the middle, with my eel it's going to be tricky...

  3. I am in a need to reaquascape my tank, probably get rid of some rock also, I think the nearly 60 pounds in my tank is way overkill. My main question is, how are my corals going to hold up? Is this much stirring around going to cause spikes in my tank parameters? What's the best way of going about this? Most of my corals are not fully "attached" or glued to my rock work so I can separate them easily. I just don't want to lose like 500 bucks in coral over night.

  4. Lol I was thinking of making the same upgrade from my 40B. But I think I will wait' date=' sounds like so much work :)[/quote']

Meh not really! I had a standard 90 years ago and I think it's easier to maintain than my 40. More volume means more time for things to go south lol. Plus plumbing and such is fun for me :) also all my equipment minus my skimmer is big enough for a 90. All of my stuff is was bigger than needed on my current system. But I agree if you had to get a new sump, skimmer, lights, pumps, reactors, etc it's a TON of work!

  5. Not in the mood to spend a grand on another tank. I just figure if someone is going to upgrade, downsize, etc I'd have a thread out there. I'm starting a motor build for y BMW soon so I'd rather pur the chunk of cash a custom tank would cost me towards that.

  6. Looking for a 36x24x24 tank was going to get a 60 gallon but I think I have way to much stuff today it in one. Plus my fixture will fit the 90 better. I have a 40 breeder that is up and running with a nice DIY stand, I will be keeping my sump, pumps, lighting, etc but If your interested in the tank and stand I'll throw it in to the deal. It's drilled with a 2 inch drain, and dual returns one on each side. Let me know what you guys have. Thanks!

  7. I haven't seen any t-5 fixtures or retrofit kits with the dimpled reflector material, you normally see that used in halide. It'd be interesting to see how it works, but I think that if it was a big upgrade you would probably see fixtures coming with it from the factory.

I think it works better with halides because the source of light is much smaller that it is in a florescent tube. A small arc tube vs a long tube. and the small dimples gather light from that smaller source better as where the smooth reflector shines the light in a wider angle wherever the reflector is pointing. Does that make sence? (scratch)

Looks like I'm going with the smooth material, only thing that sucks is the ATI reflectors say they should only be used with their setup due to the distance. So I am trying to find one that's better than the TEK light ones.

  8. Mossberg maverick 88 is like 200 bucks, I've had one for years rarely ever clean it, "it's a shotgun and a mossberg" it's never once jammed or failed to feed, the gun is a brute and it's pistol grip so easy to swing around for home defense. Or you can spend 200 more on a Remington that is pretty much the same gun. If you just want something inexpensive, but reliable, that's my suggestion from personal experience.
