  1. Anyone? Going to take him to a shop this weekend if no one wants him.

I should say, he is aggressive in a clown fish manor. There are other fish in the tank that are fine. My tank is going to be a nem tank so I have to be able to put my hands in there without him attacking me lol!

FREE FREE FREE! Frag is just if you want haha

  2. I’ve noticed the sting only on certain parts of my arm. My fingers are unaffected but the underside of my forearm tends to have a burning or rash sensation occasionally. I usually just wash off with soap and it goes away within 20 mins or so. Seems the older I get, the more my tank bugs me lol! Gloves are definitely not a bad idea.

  3. As stated, as long as you are above 0, everything will be fine. Monitoring is key to avoid zeroing out. Nothing wrong with that number at all.

also depends on what you are growing. LPS don’t mind it being quite a bit higher as long as it’s gradual.

  4. I don’t recall doing water changes during Cipro treatment. I did remove carbon, UV and turned my skimmer down so it wouldn't collect during that time (DC pump). After I was done I put everything back and did like a 10% change with AWC over a few days.

  5. Do the cipro, it’s a chill treatment, overall had zero issues doing it myself. Cured the BJD no problem. Lost nothing.

Cant say for sure that is it based on your vid, usually you see brown jelly crap over them, especially after lights out. Regardless, I’d start there as Cipro won’t really disturb anything else.

If your phos is actually lower at like .025 or whatever the lowest is, wouldn’t cause that unless you zeroed it quickly. Honestly, 0.25 is high but if it happened gradually it also likely wouldn’t take them out. Fast changes of any parameters in general could cause the issue though. Still ditch the API for something like either Hanna checker or even Salifert. When really in doubt, it never hurts to do an ICP test and give yourself the most accurate baseline to go off of. Good piece of mind for $45.

  6. Can’t do AWC drain into frag because it would then need an additional line removing water for that to work. A DOS can theoretically do AWC up to like 30 gals per day so if a stand alone DOS was swapping 30 gals between my main and the frag tank, theoretically the chemistry would be consistent between the two. I know the DOS is capable of the lift as my current display has the DOS in my garage a story below the tank.

The main thing I’m concerned with in doing a plumb from frag to display sump is that it isn’t just a downhill run since the tanks are on the same story of my house, the part running underneath poses some potential drain issues. I’m not sure if there is enough pressure from the drain to overcome the lift from below into the sump without some sort of weird drain issue happening. Maybe not but I’m not 100% sure so that’s why I’m wondering?

  7. So here’s the deal, trying to figure out how to approach this…my main display is in my living room, it’s 210 gal with sump below. I want to have a frag tank setup in my office.

To achieve this, I would have to plumb under the house. Not a big deal for me, just wondering if this poses any issues?

The plumbing will have to drop about a foot below the floor and about 10-15ft horizontal before going back up and into the main sump.

Obviously I’m doing this for overall ease of maintenance as my tank is fully controlled by apex and has ATO/AWC/Dosing running on it.

My only other thought if the drain posed some sort of flow issue would be to have a dedicated DOS to do AWC between the display and frag tank to stabilize them together.

Thoughts? Does frag tank size matter for this? Debating if I want to do a 4x2 tank or something small like a 22gal aquamaxx tank or something? I will definitely have to calculate how much extra water volume I have in the sump, but I’ve got some room still.

  8. I had one years ago in a tank with clams. He would constantly bury them and dig all over. Had to get rid of him, too crazy lol

I think it’s like most fish, some people luck out with one that had a more chill personality but in my observations, unless you don’t want anything on the sand bed or don’t care about digging piles, they probably aren’t the fish for you 😬

  9. Hey all,

So I need to thin the herd…badly. I have 3 different types available:

Standard Rainbow BTA - $10 and up (depending on size)

”Ultra” Rainbow BTA - $20 and up

One smaller black widow approx 3-4” - SOLD

I’m just looking to clear out some room in my sump where I put them after they wander around. These are all healthy splits from my display. The more you spend, the better the deal. Also have random zoas and spongodes to throw in free with purchase.

I am in Camas right off hwy 14, easy to get to. I can’t deliver these so please don’t ask 😆

here’s my overcrowded sump. Green ones are not for sale currently. There is probably 20-30 in my sump.

  10. Have you ever tried witch hazel dosing for STN/RTN? Too late in this case but check it out. It’s one of the tools from Reef Moonshiners methods. I keep it on hand and have dosed on occasion. No I’ll effects and corals appeared to recover.

Sucks to lose such a nice colony though, that is why I stopped keeping birds nest lol

  11. Get an Orphek OR3 bar, they have a UV specific one as well as a blue plus that has lots of UV mixed in (probably a better choice overall).
