  1. I would assume ammonia is running wild, probably time for some Prime and do a wet skim water change. With skimmer overflowing, drain skimmate into bucket and replace with fresh salt water (do about 5 gals this way, direct change more). Definitely need more than a 5 gal change, with things this off id try and do more like 15 gal change.

Holy frog spawn 😂. How long did that take to grow out?

Haha I have yet to see anyone with more! It all started with a 2-3 head frag like 5-6 years ago. It’s been in 3 different tanks along the way and many many frags made too!

  3. My tank is overflowing with coral overgrowth! I need to clear out space big time so please make offers or let me know what you’re after. Here’s what I have too much of:

Frogspawn - $5/head or deals for quantities SOLD OUT

    orange/purple Rodactus shrooms - $10/ea SOLD OUT

Orange Starburst monticap (yellow polyps) - $10 and up, will break off chunks

    2 green polyp toadstools - $10 ea

Rainbow BTAs - $10 and up depending on size, qty discounts

mohawk zoas and mind blowing palys - free with purchase

monti spongodes - $5 for frags or free with purchase

I am in Camas, WA (98607). I do not deliver frags, please don't ask lol

here’s a video of the tank:

  4. If you end up adding a manual float valve, you should add a siphon break, similar to what Neptune ATK has. That way the pump has some pressure relief should the float be up but pump is still running.

not sure about other solenoids for shut down. For a sensor that interrupts the pump, you could use something like the autoaqua smart shutoff, the down side is they don’t reset themselves and alarm until you manually reset them. They are more of a skimmate safety than anything.

  5. Welcome! I’m also in Camas so when you are ready for some easy corals, hit me up.

Nice thing these days is there are so many nano based products for setting up smaller tanks. These forums are also great for second hand gear if you want to save some money too. I’d second using chemipure media, good stuff and comes in small sizes too.

  6. Closest thing I’ve had is the ATK turning to off if it runs too long, it’s a safety programming built in (timer for max run time). Is that your issue? Or are you not turning on at all in auto? Possibly the defer timer?

Time to summon the apex pros! 😆

  7. I have a nuvo 8 gal AIO I have been hoarding and not going to use now. Has a home made stand (actually nice looking IMO), lid, and starboard piece for the bottom if you want bare-bottom. Probably have a pump but not 100% sure (might have a maxijet in the gear pile somewhere). I could do $100 for it if your interested.

  8. Def looks like it’s shedding. Whenever I would have the brown shed lingering I would blow it off with a wavemaker and it really helped speed up its recovery from that upset state.

Also as mentioned, with nitrate/phosphate zeroed out, most corals are gonna be pissed. I would probably feed more to bring them up a bit.

  9. Everything @Eatfrenchfries said is true, which I think is why they were very popular when they first came out a few years back, then kind of phased out more when people stripped their tanks of nutrients too quickly. They take time to dial in with a close eye on testing, I’d definitely use less than any manufacturer recommends. I also forget the reason but many ran the output line into the skimmer intake…but it’s been too many years and I stepped away from using them myself.

I use Neomarine and have been satisfied with the nutrients it contains. My ICP tests for a lot of the minor elements were in the perfect range so I would attribute that to the salts overall performance (which I use AWC to assist with this replenishment vs dosing individual macro elements).

Also, you are probably looking into all this based on your travel plans and leaving the tanks for a long time. Personally I would have someone (who knows what they are doing) stop in and check levels and status of the tank to avoid disasters like you experience. Self maintaining tanks are something to strive for but hard to beat even an occasional check in.

  10. Are you space limited? For the size of those tanks, they are pretty spendy. Most people do brute trash cans for an economical mixing station. Also can find food grade barrels (50 gal I believe) on marketplace or CL for pretty cheap too.
