  1. Here we go again

Easy! Walt Disney Colony -> Bounce Shoom pile -> 5x yellow tangs ballin on a free tank budget!
  2. Massive hydnophora of death!

YES!!!!! Glad your giving that beast a good run, I hate fragging up colonies like that one just to get rid of it. Keep an eye on it’s deadly growth fingers! ☠️

Your referring to the bubble tips? Sounds like the light may have spurred them to split. I’m sure people on here would buy them from you, myself included. Depending on what kind they are (and size) and the general interest when listing them for sale they go anywhere from $20-60 each for the more standard ones. as far as removal, there are many methods, usually revolving around making the nem close up and let its foot release. Some use ice cubes, others just slowly keep prying (gently) under the foot until it eventually comes loose. You can float them in the tank in a Tupperware with holes or a basket to contain them until selling.
  4. Which screen to use

I picked some of this up off Amazon, works perfect and is Prime Clear Mesh Netting 6' x 4' https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00OABXY9O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_TrGHAbC7QK0RR
  5. Chaeto/Macro share

I thought we should start a sticky thread for those ready to do some trimming and wouldn't mind giving it away to someone looking to start or add on to their current fuge. Given that most are wanting to do some trimming asap, please be curtious of this and try to contact and pickup quickly. I'll start, it's that time again! Variety: Chaeto and Fern Caulerpa available Amount: 1-2 baseball size amounts Location: Vancouver
  6. Led strips?

Yeah, their output is really low and they typically burn out or start going out rather quickly. I’ve got a better solution I can show you when you get your lid with 3w leds on straight led pcb boards, essentially a DIY reefbrite
  7. Golden basket overload

Nice update Jeremy! Much like R2R does to keep the sponsor stuff separate. 👍
  8. Acro comeback

I just looked back at the place I bought it from online (in 2014 lol!) and their site now says they won’t ship to US anymore. It was a weird thing when I bought it where they shipped from out of the US so you didn’t need an Rx. The newer version is called Interceptor Spectrum. It was one of the easiest pest treatments I’ve ever used. Literally grind up the pill, put in tank, leave for a few days and do a water change. bAM red bugs gone!
  9. Acro comeback

Did you look into Interceptor for treatment? Works great for red bugs!
  10. RO/DI Unit - How Many Stages? 4,5,6?

Oh man that makes me sad! I hope they are either remodeling or moving to a new location. The new owner seemed pretty nice and excited about it (and the potential improvements he wanted to make)...can’t image it would be closing up so fast... 😩 If you need some water in a pinch, I’m in Camas and can get you some.
  11. RO/DI Unit - How Many Stages? 4,5,6?

I don’t think OIAB is closed, as far as I know it is now under new ownership (Jason sold it). this Neptune place...do you mean Bobby (the detailer, Autospa 360) sells stuff now??? RODI systems are more about the filters themselves. One of the best is the Spectrapure 99% rejection “spectra-select”. This is a 90gpd unit. Keep in mind that you have to have the necessary pressure to run a 150gpd membrane which will require a booster pump. As far as “must haves” for the unit, I’d make sure you get: -flush kit -dual or triple inline TDS meter -good membrane I run 3 stages of pre filters, membrane, and dual DI chambers (for longer time between replacement). I also have a booster pump but that’s not necessary, however it does make the unit more efficient.
  12. ATO container

That container should work fine. You could also pick up one of these nifty little fittings to make it “real legit” 😁👍 https://www.bulkreefsupply.com/1-4-push-connect-bulkhead-tank-adapter.html
  13. Calcium Reactor VS 2 Part

I’ve done both, preferred the Ca Rx. TheClark has pretty well outlined most of it. The biggest issue is the upfront cost of getting a reactor going with all the right equipment. Once you have it, it’s cheaper long term (on larger tanks). The thing I liked about it was as long as my needle valve wasn’t getting clogged (I just made sure I looked at the stream daily but didn’t require much adjustment overall), levels only drift gradually, which corals are generally adaptable too so you have more time to react to and adjust accordingly. On my 210 gal system I replaced reactor media every 6-9 months and had a 15lb CO2 tank so it never ran out, I’d just fill it out of fear yearly and was fine. Obviously it all depends on what’s in your tank. Getting it dialed the first month Is the hardest, after that, usually smooth sailing. how big is the tank you want to switch to Ca Rx on?
  14. Help me choose some lights.

Honestly, at $100 (especially for new), your asking for too much for it to be programmable and cover the size of tank you have. You could buy a single black box led for under $100 but it will just have dimmer knobs and will only really cover 24x24 max. You may be right at $100 for a programmable unit, but again, not the coverage you need. when trying to do budget lighting, there’s a lot of “hacks” for black box leds to use an external controller, but you have to have the external controller itself to do it. if I were you I’d spend the little extra ($135) for a SBReef 16” basic and save up for a second one in the future. The 32” model is ($274). keep an eye on the classifieds and you may score a good deal on 2 black boxes
  15. Gealth LED fullspec 90w

Only thing I’m seeing as an issue is no fans. Most Chinese lights tend to have the minimum thickness possible heat sinks so they rely on a fan to keep them cool...not seeing anything on those units 😬. Heat and LEDs don’t play well, especially for longevity.
  16. One Question..

It prevents trolls spamming something and never coming back (don’t contribute to the community at all). also there use to be an issue of people getting on here and just posting in the classifieds and never anything else. Again, ideally users contribute to the site more than turning it into a reef version of Craigslist. be patient and it will all be normal after some posts.
  17. Coral browning

Hard to say for sure but if more than one coral is showing signs, I’d do a water change and swap out (or put in) some new carbon. Nothing in the levels you show indicate an issue, the plate looks like it’s bleaching too. Also, make sure your heater isn’t broken and leaching crap into the water like mine did 😡
  18. Does tank lighting affect skimmer foaming?

I’ve never noticed lighting playing a part in it skimming, but as PowderBlue mentioned, feeding, chems, carbon media, water changes, all can mess with it. What skimmer is it? Does it need cleaned maybe?
  19. Help

http://www.advancedaquarist.com/blog/quarantining-marine-fish-made-simple 3-4 weeks, could go slightly longer as he shows ick whereas this article is written as if bringing home any new fish (assuming not necessarily infected). Keep him well feed and he’ll pull through.
  20. Heater broke, tank crashed

This really sucks, right when things are looking fantastic, something off the wall like this happens. I had a 300w hydor Theo heater that decided to break. Obviously didn't know this at first, my wife called me on lunch and said the skimmer was overflowing. I told her to unplug it and I'd check when I got home. 3 hours later when I get back all corals are closed and not looking hot. Everything appeared fine so I began prepping water for a large change. Not sure what prompted me to check the heater but I reached in and grabbed it and it shocked me! I dropped it back and quickly unplugged it. I do have a titanium grounding Probe in the sump also, so hopefully that helped with some stray voltage. this was on Wednesday. I make a late run to pet smart and get a replacement heater as the temp dropped to 75. I did a 25 gallon water change that night (45 cube with sump, figure it's roughly 50%). Cleaned skimmer and swapped for new carbon. Yesterday, corals continue to deteriorate. I bought a 20L and setup last night. Temps were low so I waited until this morning to move corals over. i don't know what the heck is in those heaters but it's bad news. I have to assume some heavy metal like copper but not sure. At this point, my only move is to drain the whole tank tomorrow and restart it after cleaning. Not sure if anyone has experienced this or has any tips. Here's a pic from a month ago :'(
  21. Taste your water!

Glad things are doing ok and Matty could take care of you. As I mentioned, we had the stomach flu that day so you really didn’t want to be around our house 🤢. Also I’m in Camas now so might be slightly farther than my old house was. you don’t keep salt on hand anymore? Just buying pre mix?
  22. Heater broke, tank crashed

I’m still running the Jager with no issues since it was put into service. I had to buy a second one for my QT tank while the display was “re-cycling.” They are available at PetSmart (not PetCo). Overall happy with it and everything has been back in the display for a month or so. I will say that, as with most heaters, a controller is necessary as they don’t hit anywhere close to the numbers on the dial (only observed due to QT not being on my RK).
  23. Breaking down 120 gallon tank

Free bump for Tommy! He has some quality livestock and ridiculous cheap prices! That blue hippo tang is super healthy and a steal at $25! Wish I had the space. Thanks for the corals! 👍
  24. Anyone know what these are?

Just remove the rics and put on a clean rock or have them re-attach to some rubble in a low flow area/Tupperware.
