Thanks guys Tap water is from our well. We're pretty much at the top of the aquifer from the Cascades and there's no industry or agriculture above us so it's about as pure as you can get - I feel very fortunate. I've been using this water in tanks for 14 years so whatever minerals are in there are ones corals like Kessil is about 6 inches above the tank. The edges are way brighter in person than in the picture - I still haven't mastered the art of taking pics under blue LED's.

Thought I'd share my tank. Started this about 2 months ago when my 40B became a daycare tank for my sons reef lol. It's pretty simple. BB. 5 gallon water changes once a week. Water comes right from the tap and other than mixing the hot and cold to get it to 78 I don't do anything else to it. I have an AC110 that I run filter floss in which gets changed once a week. Inhabs and equipment are as follows... 20L Kessil A150w 15,000k AC110 modded Vortech MP10 Via Aqua 100w heater Duncans Rics (florida and yuma) Acans Zoas Maxi nems Sinularia Fuzzy 'shrooms Tiny frogspawn head Crocea 2 ringed cowries Lots of dwarf ceriths 5 Astrea snails Various hermits 1 porcelain crab That's it so far. Thanks for letting me share
  4. Hey PM me if you're looking for a home...I'm about to list a nice house for sale in Bend that has an in-wall built-in that has a small room behind for equipment/access (no tank there now). Obviously the person who lived there before was a tank nut
  5. African Grey. He's pretty mellow and loves this time of year now it's warming up because he gets to go outside all day and "bark" with the dogs lol.
  6. All signed up too. Posting as "Ozymandias"
  7. I have a 20L that's BB. Between my vortech and modded AC110 I haven't even had a snail poo sit on the bottom in weeks. I don't have any nuisance algae and everything is very healthy. I painted the underside of the bottom a sand color so it looks like sand from a distance. Yes, BB's aren't as natural looking as sand but I plan on covering the floor with corals anyhow and with no sand the water params are perfect.
  8. I have about 12 maxi's and my porcelain never leaves her favorite. I've seen lots of threads where people have them with sexy's.
  9. Not a real one...Australian Cattle Dogs were created by crossing a domestic breed dog with a Dingo to create a hardy dog that can work in the hot Aussie Outback. So they're only 1/2 dingo...still kinda wild beasts though. But like you love sharks...I'd LOVE a real Dingo (especially now my kids aren't babies anymore lol) (whistle)
  10. I LOVE cats unfortunately so does my Cattle Dog so far she's eaten 11...1 duck and 7 chickens. Well, that's not 100% true...some she didn't eat she just killed them and walked away. But her favorite foods are Robins they are crunchy and sage rat brains are smooth like jello and rabbit livers are squishy when eaten fresh (naughty) But she's mellowing out a little now she just licks her lips when she see's my kitty looking at her. Oh, I almost forgot....she did dig up my Husky two months after we buried him...oh now THAT was some good jerky. I didn't appreciate having to pick up the pieces of my beloved dog that were spread all over my lawn!!!!!! (sad) OMG - I forgot she ate one of my horses too (but it was already dead - and buried) Dang Dingo (flame)
  11. Before you look into those above ground pools make sure the plastic used as liner doesn't leach anything and won't deteriorate when exposed to salt water long term.
  12. I applaud you It sounds like you have a great plan for your sharks long term (clap)(clap)(clap) Very exciting.
  13. Your tank should be no less than 20ft long to humanely keep a shark. Of course the quality of the sharks life isn't usually what people are thinking about when they get them (sad)
  14. This was on nano-reef so many of you may have seen it but this was SO adorable I just had to share. http://reefbuilders.com/2010/11/10/rescued-baby-dolphin-swim-lessons/
  15. Oh my gosh..well this has tuned out to be more than I expected (laugh) Not that that should surprise me with you guys lol. So for all of the wonderful folks and sponsors and LFS owners who have responded...I'm rethinking my trip. I have to - how could I miss out on some of these stores?! I'm going to GPS you all and hubby and I are going to sneak up for a one day trip of LFS shopping and I'm bringing more than the $490 so I don't have to skimp on stuff . Thanks everyone (clap)
  16. Oh Westside in Beaverton...I can do that. Beaverton isn't out of my way heading from the West Hills to the 217...anyone have an address? And Sunday hours because it will probably be a Sunday when we leave. Westside to Upscales...oh I'm getting excited already Thanks ';-)
  17. Westside? Where's that? ..and thanks everyone for the input. Y'all don't know how lucky you are being able to just go to a store anytime you want. We have one store in C.O. and it's great to have it and the folks who own it are awesome but I went in there yesterday with $500 in my pocket, willing to spend all of it, and came out with $490 because there was just nothing there :-( My problem with shopping around is the other members of my family...it's 3 hours home from PDX and once in the car they all want to get home asap.
  18. Thanks everyone. I've been to Upscales before and it's a great store. Anything else worth going to that's between the West Hills and Upscales? I'm not worried about "rare". I just want some nice corals.
  19. We're heading to the "big city" soon and of course I'm coming with the intention of buying a bucket load of corals as we head out of town because I'm tired of looking at an empty tank lol. So here's q. for those of you familiar with the LFS stores in PDX. If you could only shop at one (because I won't be alone and I know hubby and kids won't want to be trekking all over the place) which store is the best to shop for corals? We'll be in the West Hills area and heading out of town along the 217 and I5 south but if there's a store good enough then we'd go out of our way to go there (within reason...I'm not heading to Hillsboro or Gresham lol) Thanks
  20. hahaha so true, usually when you're leaving the stadium everyone is still pretty noisy but not after that game...it was as if we were all leaving in silence lol (laugh) We figured it was because it was such an early game...they hadn't woken up properly lol
  21. Oh thanks. His name is "Bob" My kidlet went diving with Galapago's sharks for his 16th b'day and this painting was done from one of the photos he took. My tanks 'scaping is based on an Archipelago so I wanted to give it the open sea feel (whistle)
  22. I ordered a PAR 38 7 LED light last week. Just wanted to get one to make sure I liked them...ordered a second yesterday...I DO like them lol They are wayyyyy brighter than I expected (and I expected BRIGHT!) I'm putting one on each side of my 40b, angled in towards the middle. These shots show the tank with just the one PAR 38 - other lights are off. Just wanted to share (clap)
  23. I WANT TWO and I'm not going to spay or neuter them wmahahahahahaha
