  1. OK - back with some more free stuff including a dual channel Sunlight Supply MH power supply with two retrofit style reflectors (I think I have a couple used radium bulbs for these), Wet/dry style sump set up for an external skimmer with return, DYI Ca reactor chamber, hang off back skimmers - one recric with pump, partially used bucket of salt and a "make your own" frozen food dispenser setup.  Pics below.

These all need to be gone ASAP and will end up in a dumpster bag if no one gets them!  PM me if you can pick up tomorrow or early next week and I can provide pickup address.

  2. Well that is unfortunate but also really interesting to see that the remote piece also RTN'd along with the mother colony.  Would argue against simple local conditions but perhaps something that species is more sensitive too as a whole.  Alternately, perhaps something released from the RTN mother colony that selectively affects that species.  Definitely fascinating even if highly unfortunate.

Have you ever tried witch hazel dosing for STN/RTN? Too late in this case but check it out. It’s one of the tools from Reef Moonshiners methods. I keep it on hand and have dosed on occasion. No I’ll effects and corals appeared to recover.

Sucks to lose such a nice colony though, that is why I stopped keeping birds nest lol

Will have to check this out for future reference!

  4. Hey all,

The time has come to tear down my current 125 build in preparation of listing our house and moving.  This will include catching and moving my livestock - including 14 fish.  I can do most of this myself except actually moving the tank out of the house (preferably without breaking it) but would be more than happy to entertain ideas, tips, moral support etc. on how best to accomplish this.

I have a lot of live rock so plan to start by pulling all of that and partially draining the display so that I can actually catch the fish but then will need to keep them alive until I can transport to their temporary holding tank offsite.  Thinking of transporting them in a few lidded buckets for simplicity sake.  I only have. a few live coral at this point (don't ask) so will probably cut that off the live rock and re-home ASAP.  Will probably just let the rock dry out and recycle as part of a reboot.  Also have a layer of sand in the display plus a deep sand bed refegium to deal with.

The whole setup (minus the chiller) is located under the stand in my dining room with hard wood floors so keeping the process as spill free as possible is also a priority if anyone as good tricks for that (besides don't drop anything) happy to hear them.  No drains nearby so will either have to bucket brigade or find a long stretch of tubing (20 plus feet) to run out the window.

My window of time is pretty tight so looking at the weekend after this coming one - Sat/Sun 16th/17th to pull this off.

    Thanks for any sage advice.

To those considering setting up a system, I suspect the price tag on this setup has you stopped in your tracks.    Hint, by the time you get your setup going - it's going to be more.  Might as well start off with the right gear, configured the right way, and then you can just focus on the learnings.

    Exactly what David said!

Don’t think I haven’t been eyeing this set up for that reason.  Use what i can sell the rest. I do have a build I’m working on.Throw in your mixing station and I may not be able to resist . 😎

Well Kim, you do need someplace to keep the purple tang!  Pick this up and you could babysit all my fish for me!

I could use the specimen tank and light. If someone needs a stand and sump.

That could work. I realize the whole setup might not be ideal for everyone.  That said - would be preferable to all go together from my basements perspective 😆

  8. Hi all,

I need to clean out my basement and have some various items that I have collected over the years and need a new home.  I will be putting up additional items as I go but lets start with these...

UPDATE - Everything is gone or pending pickup.  Thanks for the interest and stay tuned for a new Share the Love gear thread soon!

    1. Very nice "specimen" tank that was used to house some cold water species.  Overall tank dimensions 31 long, 14 tall and 18 deep.  Built in external overflow and drilled return, recessed acrylic lid and 4 evenly spaced slotted dividers.  This tank is really well made and relatively thick to be run cold.  Comes with sturdy "no nonsense" stand and sump with small skimmer.  Sump is old school wet/dry design but easily modded to suit.

    2. One 36 inch T5 4 bulb light with two switched circuits.  Nothing fancy and missing glass splash guard but works.  Would fit over the above tank.  Bulbs are new old stock.

    3.  New in box Magniflow 360 canister filter.  Not standard issue for our tanks I realize but still can be useful.

Let me know if these are useful to anyone.  In terms of sharing the love - it would be great if you were a paying member... or decided to become one.

    Thanks!

  9. Thank you Jeff!  Always host a great event and this was no exception.  Glad to see so many new and familiar faces make it out despite the weather.  Hope everyone who made it enjoyed themselves and went home with something nice for their tank - even if it was just advice 🙂

  10. Oh nooooo!  I loved that tank - so sorry to hear about this Holly!  Been so absorbed in the work and house stuff I totally missed this. Glad Jeff was able to save the livestock and minimize the damage. Will be taking what’s left of my tank down soon for relocation as well so maybe I can join the support group!
