What is the Pacific Northwest Marine Aquarium Society

My name is Jay Payne, and I am the current President of PNWMAS. I welcome you to our website!

PNWMAS services the state of Oregon as well as southern Washington. Most of our members hail from Portland, but our membership is growing by leaps and bounds in areas such as Salem and Eugene.

If you desire to learn about the hobby and wish to find like-minded individuals, then PNWMAS is the place for you! We typically meet on the third Sunday of every month. Sometimes we meet at local fish stores, other times at a fellow hobbyists house and on occasion we hold meetings at one of our educator’s schools. More often than not, some form of coral trading ensues at each meeting. We also have events such as trips to the Oregon Coast Aquarium and Hatfield Marine Science Center, participate in the SOLV beach clean-ups and fly in experts of the hobby to speak to us. At our summer barbeque of last year, we brought Steve Tyree to speak to us which was an incredible experience.

However, if you cannot attend meetings for whatever reason, we have a very active internet presence. I encourage you to join our message board and participate in discussions whether you live in Portland, Oregon or Portland, Maine. The board is a valuable resource for any hobbyist. If ever you have a question, post on the boards. Somebody may very well know the answer!

So take that first step and join our internet community! Introduce yourself and get to know us. Before you know it you will be just as obsessed with the hobby as the rest of us!
