Hi All, We have a really fun meeting coming up. We'll be having the May meeting at my house in Corvallis. Send me a PM for my address and to RSVP. The meeting will be from 1-4 and Eli of Aquabiomics will be presenting on the aquarium microbiome at 230. We'll have food, drinks, and raffles! Follow this thread, as I will be posting more information about the raffles and the talk as we get closer to the meeting date. One of the raffles will be for corals from my tanks (see below). In the meantime, don't forget about the NEXT club meeting that will be held at the Tyree Coral Farmers Market on 11-4 on Sunday April 28th at the Airport Holiday Inn Hotel. Hope to see you there!13 points

Hey there! Returning reefkeeper here. Been out of the hobby for a bit due to life stuff but I'm back and hoping to hit the ground running. Jeff over at Cuttlefish got me hooked up with a new Red Sea system which is currently cycling but I'm super excited to fill the tank up with livestock and learn from all you veterans!9 points

Hello all. I'm a returning reefer after 10 years of being out of the hobby. My setup is a 75g Innovative Marine system (NUVO EXT) with sump and external 5g ATO. It has been up and running for about 6 months now and seems to be doing quite well. Other than me almost bleaching out my candy cane corals. I will start another thread of my journey to this point in case anyone has questions.7 points

Keith is live streaming right now with Andy and Eli, be sure to catch the stream or watch it later. Let’s boost those views. I hear if we bribe Eli with corals and drive the samples to his lab we can move up in the queue… pro tips from watching the videos!3 points

Sweet! I'll be there helping the club spot, freshly back from a trip to Hawaii. Should be mellow and chill. For my skin complexion, a successful trip will be judged by no sunburn. SPF 50 Baby!3 points

Today was the day... I'd changed the light spectrum, and the slime in this tank got "better" but just never cleaned up. So... Removable Frag tank plumbing system pays off again. Two cardinals, one crab, seven shrimp, a large Goni (thanks @SuncrestReef) and a single orange mushroom (thanks @reefrun) rescued and returned to their main home. They were happy enough in temporary holding basket, in the east frag tank. BTW, east frag tank is almost growing out of the water!3 points

I upgraded my water station this winter with two 100 gallon barrels I picked up directly from the Norwesco manufacturing plant in Washougal. You can’t buy directly from them but they gave me the name of several places I could order from and then pick it up myself as freight from Washougal. It ended up being a bit cheaper for me. I used an irrigation place in Tri-cities as my local distributor. While a little costly, I modeled my new water station after SuncrestReef’s and it has been a fantastic time saver.3 points

Chopped up some extras over the weekend. Goldenrod frags range from 3/4" down to 1/4", and orange oxide frags have anywhere from 3 polyps to 10+. First come, first served. Goldenrod: $30 Orange Oxide: $30 Grab the pair for $50 I also have a bunch of torches that I'm growing out to frag down more, but if anyone wants a colony they're available, $50/head. They're all 5+ heads. I have Knicks, Oregon ducks, Todds, and dragon soul.2 points

Got a visit from @steveweast today and he brought me some Jake Adams corals. First one in the photos is the Montipora, Crystal Experiment. It's bright green with a very unique growth pattern. Second in the list is the Hardline Hoeksemai, which is light blue and looks like the Tyree Blue Matrix. Last, but not least is the Immortal Tort. Steve says this one gets really bright blue in high light and in lower light has the green base like you see with this frag. Beautiful corals and they were all personally collected by Jake Adams--Great conversation starters for my reef. Thanks again, Steve!2 points

Hello all, Mike here! I've been keeping aquariums and various reptiles my whole life! My career had me stop in my early 20's due to being on the road so much playing music. Little over a decade later, I decided to try saltwater for the first time! I picked up the 12/15g nano tank by coralfish12g on YT. I decided myself to also document my journey on youtube as well for all my tanks! All my videos are here! <- my YT channel. I picked up a pair of clownfish from upscales, and for a while they were doing great! Now it seems as though they are fighting a bit and no longer sleeping together. I picked up a hammer coral and a trumpet coral, and i have my hammer sitting on the top rock and my trumpet about 6 inches below. My trumpet doesn't seem to want to open. Not sure if its lighting or if i chose a poor spot for him where he may be getting hit with a little too much current. All water params are great and salinity is sitting a 1.025. Sorry for the blur in this photo as I do need to clean the outside of my tank ^.^ Just thought i'd say hello and what my experience is so far a couple months into my saltwater tank life! Cheers! - Happy Reefing! Mike2 points

I have a brand new 150 gallon rimless tank that has never been out of the box. Shortly after I got it I also learned that the house I was renting would be selling in the next couple years, so I held off. Now the house is selling and I won't have space for a 150 on top of the others tanks I have in my new place. I just have the aquarium, no stand or sump. Let me know if you have any questions.2 points

I 20240402_134519.mp4 Running out of refrigerator space for all my cultures. Started spinning some at 1500 RPM for 10minutes to condense for feeding. The use of sodium alginate at 0.38 grams per liter has proven to be highly effective in keeping suspension. Realized that sodium alginate won't work on live phytoplankton unless it is quite dense. Currently running these at 1L masters and 3 - 5 gallon bulk. I can only store 500mL of each culture as a backup and 7G of blended feed. But now that I can condense phyto I can store 3 - 5 times the amount without breaking a sweat. -Nannochloropsis -Tetraselmis -Chlorella -Thalassiosira -Isochrysis -Pyrocystis -Phaeodactylum -Chaetoceros -Porphyridium -Rhodomonas -Symbiodinium A -Symbiodinium B -Dunaliella -Spirulna -Scenedesmus -Haematococcus -Pavlova -Synechococcus Couldn't have this many cultures running without @LavenderTi and the carboys. This was the tunring point that got me deeper into the rabbit hole. Biggest downside is that the phyto cells lose motility quite rapidly this way. But the consistency is akin to phytofeast. ***PNSB when suspended in the alginate will consume it over time. Not recommended. But it seems to have no problem losing suspension and being motile if concentrated. Shoutout to @CuttleFishandCoral for the awesome sea apple. This made my week. Thank you @Zach0225 for the CO2 tanks. My PNSB production takes a lot of my CO2 (20lb tank). But now I have enough tanks (2x5lb) to resuscitate phytoplankton cultures. Photo pictured above is CO2 addition bringing back a Chlorella culture. My hope is to fine tune a few of my finicky cultures to be bullet proof. So as not to renew them yearly. The CA reactors will be used to make a effluent reactor that I can use to grow more PNSB.2 points

Anyone looking for water storage tanks (for RO/DI or saltwater mixing stations) can find a huge selection at Green Concepts Container in Gresham. They advertise on Craigslist: https://portland.craigslist.org/mlt/grd/d/gresham-drinking-potable-waterfood/7726165135.html This is where I bought my two 75 gallon storage tanks. If you have the space, get storage tanks with the capacity for at least a 100% water change on your aquarium setup for emergency situations like this.2 points

Hi there! I am looking for some new Zoanthid frags for our tanks! Some on my dream list to try and find are space chaos, nightmare, charmander, stratocaster, grand master, perfect storm, daisy duke, and fairy fart. However, I am open to different ones, preferably those brighter in color, as we have a lot of darker ones in our tank already. Located in the Portland suburbs, but willing to drive.1 point
