Why stop at goddess of the sea? She hunts deer and elk and she probably pilots planes. So if we are to change her name it should be Holly the Goddess of Everything in this and all galaxy's . Do you think that's to wordy? We could cut it down to HTGOEITAAG. But seriously she is good at running her tanks and she sticks to her guns with dipping and quaritineing her fish. When I got back into the hobby two years ish ago she saved me a bunch of Embarrassment. I shared a bunch of my corals with her. She went home and dipped the corals. She found a bunch of AEFW. So she had to make the call and tell me the bad news. She made the call and I was very embarrassed but she made me feel better about it. Luckily I hadn't sold or given any other corals out. But if she hadn't dipped it would of ruined her tank and within that time frame I would of sold or given awY other corals so she saved me. As good as she is tank wise she's that much better as a person. It's such a great feeling to have so many great people on this forum. I have never had a bad interaction from anyone on this board. So I am not sure if I welcomed you to the club. I will do it now, welcome. I have enjoyed your posts and you are a perfect fit for our bunch of misfits that are the nicest people around.

Still battling the acro eating black slugs. So far they seems to be targeting 5 of my sps. I might need to increase my dipping frequency. Other sps are still growing fast. Got some larger grain sand, 1-2mm. They are noticeable larger than my existing sand. Hopefully my wave pumps won't part them in the middle. I'm not sure if my leopard wrasses prefer these or the smaller grain sand. My prototype controller seems to be working. Still need some extensive software tweaks. Tank pH is trending lower as kalk reservoir is depleted. I'm hacked 2 Little Fishes media reactor to be my kalk reactor ATO. Now with larger volume and greater evaporation, kalk is depleted around 14 days. Ideally, I want it to last a month. Another project in the queue: bigger kalk reactor. Interesting looking at my tank stats history, past 8 days. There was a temperature drop. That's when I turn down house temp and forgot to turn it back up. My wife was also complaining why it feels colder. Oops Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Tapatalk

Those fish did not starve to death. If you look at the recent history of the tank it is very clear that the most likely vector for pathogen introduction is a recent fish addition, likely the flame angel. I'd be very willing to bet that Amyloodiniun ocellatum was the culprit here. Those mortalities happening ten days or so after introduction of a new fish are very much in line with Amyloodinium lifecycle. In all likelihood the thinness of the fish you noticed was due to significant disruption/damage to the gill lamellae from the Amyloodinium, which can lead to rapid dehydration within hours. With this disease you typically do not see a lot of the visual indicators you see in a lot of other common pathogens, no visible spots, no heavy mucous, no lifted scales or defined lesions. Typically eractic/nervous behavior, increased respiration/labored breathing, loss of color and off feed are the best indicators of Anyloodinium. Unfortunately all of those signs are also early indicators of a lot of other pathogens as well. While buying from a reputable dealer will help you hedge bets against an incident like this, it is still very risky not to QT fish. Even a fish from a store that is as careful as possible can still bring something in. I QT all fish at my facility, however I still suggest all my customers QT the fish. QTing is Cheap and easy. At this point your best option is leave the tank fallow for 3 months before reintroducing fish. Very sorry to hear about this. Best of luck. Please QT

Since I am new around here (also because I have to meet the 30 post mark to post in classifieds)-- wanted to say a quick hello to everyone. I am in the medical field and because of lots and lots of training, I have moved around a bit in the last 10 years. I am originally from MN and was actively involved in their marine society there (shout out to TCMAS-- the MN version of PNWMAS). I have also been a part of the Chicago as well as the Arizona reef societies (although not super active due to time restraints). In the highlight of my aquarium days I had three tanks going + bred seahorses. However, with the work load those days are sadly gone. However, I have recently had the good fortune of being able to restart a nano system. My goal is to make this the most stable system I have had yet. Well, cheers!

I am glad you didn't sell your tank. How big is your orange envy? I love mine, I also love my Disney, not quite as much as the envy but it's still a nice piece. I have 59 pieces of sps in a rimless 40 gallon tank. I think I have a problem. But they are all happy and heathy as are yours. I like your fish and lps also. Your whole system is very nice. What size is your DT and I belive you have a 40 gallon sump?

Having used a reef keeper elite for a few years, and having a failure, I'm a big believer now in keeping it simple. The problem with a controller is that it's all on one device. My lights have their own control, my ca reactor has ph controller, heater has temp controller, and everything else is simply plugged in. That way any one failure doesn't shut down my whole system. It may surprise you that in addition to schooling, women can also paint. The art in your original post is by Josephine Wall. She's a favorite of mine.
