vanz
Anyone know if they will ever drop the price of the new macbook down to the same price point of the white ones? Will they phase the white ones away?
andy
Apple will always have a high-end/low-end market segmentation, pretty much all of the top tier hardware companies do. I can't see them dropping the price of the MacBook Pros anytime soon, particularly since they just refreshed the line.
vanz
I can see the Pro not dropping, but I'm talking about the 13" mac books. There are 2, the white one and the silver one. Another question...snow leopard is suppose to drop this summer. Is it best to wait until then to buy, or if you buy now, they will upgrade the software for free when the time comes? I sorta remember apple doing that with the previous OS...not sure though. Apple will always have a high-end/low-end market segmentation' date=' pretty much all of the top tier hardware companies do. steelhead77
I would expect to see the white one drop away later this year. They did this with the emac in favor of the iMac a couple years ago. New models will supplant old ones and prices will always come down on computers. Apple is trending toward an aluminum unibody on all their products. Plastic is just so passe' now. I just saw an independant price comparison between the new HP all in one, the Dell something or other and the 24 inch iMac. The iMac beat them all in price and performance. Dollar for dollar, apples to apples, the iMac is a better value than a comparitively equiped pc. Macbooks on the other hand, are still a little spendier than a pc notebook. One reason is that a CNC machined unibody case is more expensive than an injection molded polystyrene case, but when you take a look at the features available on a Macbook compared to a pc notebook, it's like comparing a Ferrari to a Model A. Go to apple.com and watch the video on the new Macbooks. Very impressive.
