tidalsculpin
Hey Miles, One more question. Dimensions.... I am planning my stand now. Most guides say 1/2 inch extra for the top but you look like you added maybe an 1 1/2 to the top. ?Is it like 27 across the top? Also, what is your height, 36"? I'm curious because it looks just right for a cube.
impur
I haven't decided on the wood for the skin yet. I was talking about sealing the frame.
impur
I added 6", so 3" on each side of my cube. The cube is 24" square and my stand is 30"X30". I wanted a little ledge to set stuff on or whatever. I made it 36" tall, thats how tall my current stand is for my 75gal. Its now slightly too tall for me though, i can't quite reach the bottom of the tank (laugh). Guess that extra 3" tall is gonna require a step stool. I'll be putting a piece of like 3/4 plywood on top, then foam for the cube to sit on. So the top of the tank is going to end up being 61-62" high. downhill_biker
not quite tall enough IMO. glad this thing is getting rolling and coming together. is this going to be a true show tank, or another show tank gone frag tank....lol. it should be a very nice tank. tidalsculpin
not quite tall enough IMO. Easy for the Yeti to say. I hear ya on height. I think I will be building my stand 36" high too.

workaholic
Nice job, looks like its coming togethor nicely. As for beer, i'm going to have to go with Flying dog (brewery in CO) Imperial gonzo porter.................................10.8% (drinking) Tom
impur
Thanks Tom! Gonzo porter eh, i'll give it a shot! Had some Brrrr this weekend at Willamette Pass pretty good stuff!
spectra
Miles, Here are the pics of the stand. It still looks lighter in the pic than in real life if you ask me(scratch) Not hard to do either as I was just playing around in the garage and thought it looked better than just the plain old golden oak look. One pic is with a flash and the other is no flash but you can figure out the one;)
mrgreenthumb
Thanks Tom! Gonzo porter eh, i'll give it a shot! Had some Brrrr this weekend at Willamette Pass pretty good stuff! Give pipeline porter a shot from kona brewing company, one of my fav porters. You should run a frag tank inline with your display to avoid it turning into a frag tank, thats what I ended up having to do.
spectra
Or just set one up in another part of the house or garage. I am trying to set up a small grow out/frag set up in the garage when the tank changes. Am tired of looking at frags glued here and there and also covering the sandbedDOH! mrgreenthumb
yea thats a great idea as well. I am thinking of setting up an independent system, with frags of every single one of my corals that way if my tank ever decided to crash, I would have a back up of all my fraggable corals. Kind of like a huge coral bank of sorts haha. Insurance
impur
I am actually planning to incorporate a 10gal tank to use as a frag tank into this stand. Another reason for making it a little oversized. I'll plumb in a drain from the display to it, and a drain out of it so i don't need to remove it ever, hopefully. It will still be completely seperate from the display, that way i can also use it as a QT if need be. That stand looks nice Scott! I'll take a look at that color and see if it looks good in my house. Matt I refuse to drink Kona Brewing Comp beer unless i'm in Hawaii. I LOVE Wailua Wheat on tap, tastes so much better than bottled.
mrgreenthumb
well then how about green lakes organic ale by deschutes brewery(amber), their seasonal, buzzsaw brown is amazing as well. That way you are staying local That 10 sounds like a good idea, I bet it will take you hmmmm 3 maybe 4 days to fill it up with frags lol just kidding. impur
Had that, good stuff. Love the buzzsaw brown too. You think it will take me 3 or 4 days? I was thinking 1 (laugh)
mrgreenthumb
lol yea it will probably take you as long as it takes for you to unbag them and put them in there haha, I always forget to take into consideration the fact that they will grow.....coral warfare is always fun to watch haha

impur
Well i'm now seriously considering selling this tank and upping the dimensions to fit my stand. I'm going to begin looking into a 30X30X24 or so sized starphire glass tank. I'm just not sure i like the overflow being in the tank, takes up some room. We shall see i guess!!
markdadof2
Do an external overflow...talk to Joel at Waves as that is what he did on my cube.
impur
I meant that the current 60gal i have has an internal overflow already. I'd like to go external on a slightly larger size I have been following your cube thread, can't wait to see it with water in it.
Mr. Reef
There's nothing better than a nice well built sturdy stand for a tank, especially if you make it on your own. It's a good feeling. I definitely want to see the end result of this build. Ricky Soutas Jr. -Soutas Saltwater & Reef Inc.-
