SuncrestReef
Anyone else looking forward to trying this new Hanna tester when it becomes available? https://www.hannainst.com/marine-nitrate-checker-hi781.html
Higher Thinking
Definitely! I'm a recent conversion to Hanna checkers (why did I wait so long!?) and I was very surprised to learn the nitrate test wasn't a readily available option. Burningbaal
Nitrate is super hard in a saltwater matrix; the chloride interferes significantly. Not surprising they didn't do it before (from a chemistry perspective), and I'm very skeptical that's going to be able to do any better from an accuracy/precision perspective than nyos or red sea.I think mostly, the checkers give a false sense of comfort because they are digital, tough they're obviously important when you have trouble distinguishing shades of color (especially if you are color blind)Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
Lexinverts
I’m going to try it as soon as it is released. Thanks for the reminder!
Bevo5
I was just looking for these today. I didn’t realize they weren’t around yet. Weird. I’ll definitely be grabbing one. I’m plus/minus such a wide range just trying to read the dang colors. This will at least be close.
bamburgb
Can’t wait, I currently use the Red Sea and can never tell exactly which shade of pink it is
ibondy
Can't wait getting my hands on one. I am using NYOS Nitrate test now, a little better then RedSea, but still not easy to read.
SuncrestReef
I’ve seen several reports on other forums that this new Hanna nitrate tester will only report 0 - 5 ppm, so I’m not sure how useful it will be for me. My tank typically tests between 8 - 16 ppm on the Red Sea Pro kit.
