💥Official CNC Superman grow out!💥

Recommended Posts

Here’s my entry....sorry about the crappy pic.  Nothing special with my setup, just a custom made 60 x 30 display with an old ATI fixture for light.  Just fired up the calcium reactor, so hopefully I don’t kill this frag before the competition even starts.

Here's my entry- picked up my frag on friday, but been too busy to type everything out.

My tank is a standard 4' 120g, 40 breeder sump.  Rock is about 18 months old, but the tank has only been up since January. Generally keep everything stupid simple. Just a protein skimmer and a fuge for nutrient export, no heater due to room being a consistent temp. For lighting I have 2 AI sol blues in an aquatic life hybrid fixture. Got em cranked as high as I can for a decent spectrum, hit about 450 par during peak where the frag is sitting. Manually dosing 2 part+ kalkwasser while I get a calcium reactor online. About 30 other acro frags in the system.

Parameters are as follows

Alk: 9-9.2dkh

Cal- 460ppm

Mag- 1360ppm

N03- 5-10

P04- .05-.1

I got a pretty nice chunky frag, largest branch is about 1" smallest just under 1/2" middles about 3/4". I swapped the plug to a hex disk 20200426_143522.thumb.jpg.7ec62c755cda99ce73ada3dfdc63610a.jpg20200426_143535.thumb.jpg.6ba9dc87c024b4c3d756b90d26803573.jpg

50 gallon IM Nuvo AIO which has only been set up for a month. It was instantly cycled using Indo and Florida live rock. Lightning is single Radion g3 suspended 8” above the tank. Calcium and alkalinity is provided by Tropic Marin carbocalcium using a GHL doser. Currently parameters are 430 calcium and 8.5 alk.

Here's my starter frag . I have about a 300 gallon system with 2 Radion G4s & 4 T5 bulbs. I do 2 part dosing with ALK at 9DKH. For filtration I I use a rollermat, Algae turf scrubber, and I run a refugium with Miracle mud and macro algae.

I'd say my frag is roughly 3/4"

Picked up my frag today- 2 days to spare (Jorge you better get that tank cycled fast!)

400 gallon display

80 gallon sump

Tanks been running since 12-20-2019, first acro went in that day-

Tanks pretty basic,

Reeflo Dart/Snapper gold hybrid return

Apex monitored/controlled

2 Maxspect gyre 250 with 5 QD40s

My Reef Creations CCR-818 Ca Rx with 2nd chamber for degassing

Radion X30 G4s

SWC 250 1A Xtreme protein Skimmer with Avast neck cleaner

I dont do water changes but rather am doing Reef Moonshiners regimen

Current levels

Mg 1550

Ca 500

KH 11

NO3 6

PO4 .18

Daily dosing NO3, PO4, Iodide, Liquid Mud, Manganese, Chromium, Cobalt, Iron, DIY Phyto plankton 4-7x a week

I think thats it-

Good Luck everyone  (Bill you're already disqualified 🤣 )

Id guess the frag to be just shy of 1/2" maybe 3/8-someone can make the call

Looks like there is some stiff competition on this one, but I'm totally in for some smack-talk, at the least.  Okay you Lily-Livered Losers, here's my entry:

Approx. 500 gallon system

    300 gallon DT

    2 x 60 gallon frag tanks

    100 gallon sump

ATI 8-bulb T5s (5 blues, 1 purple, 1 actinic, 1 coral)

PAR where frag will begin is about 250

Parameters

    Alk 8.7 (Hanna)

    Ca 480 (Triton 4/2020)

    Mg 1380 (Triton 4/2020)

    Phosphates 0.014 (Triton 4/2020)

Calcium reactor with Reborn media

UV

Maintenance

    Regular cleaning 1-2 x week

(glass, change socks, clean skimmer, wipe down salt creep, reposition/move corals, etc)

    10% water change per week

    Fill 20-gallon ATO 1-2 x week

Check equipment, clean powerheads and pumps as needed

Feed LRS daily, occasionally mysis, pellets, seaweed

No dosing

Let me just say up front that if the person who wins is one of those "I Don't Do Water Changes" ninnies (yeah, Brad, I'm talking to you), I might just have to...to...well I'm not sure yet, but it will be awful.

Andy, a protractor?  Really?

Damian, how did you get three frags?  Don't think I'm not on to you.

David, what exactly are you measuring, man!?  That is like the worst frag measurement of all time.

John, as expected, your write up is an A+.  Even if you don't win, you will have the best pics, hands down.

Trash-Talk Month #1...check!

OK.... just snapped a quick pick (apologies in advance John) to get my place in this fun fest secured.  Not sure who I'm kidding here given the grow out line up but WTH.

Tank - 125 display with approx. 100 plus pounds of live rock, sump with filter socks, aquamax ConeS3 skimmer, separate refugium with deep sand bed, live rock and cheato (approx. 40 total additional gallons of water).

Flow - return pump about 6000 liters per hour with rotating outlets plus two xf250 gyres in inverse gradual pulse mode

Paramater control - large CA reactor running off carbon doser regulator with pH control.  Occasional dosing of Mg, trace elements, Fuel based on testing/observation.

Levels - Ca 430, Mg 1290, Alk 9.3, NO3 4-8, PO3 0.1-0.12

Automation - not a lot, running a old aquatronica controller to measure temp, pH, ORP, salinity, levels but mostly just failsafes other than reactor.

Lighting - three ReeFi duo extremes (thank you Daniel!) running default programming (plus a bit of added lime at peak).  Lights about 13 inches off water.

Frag position - on frag rack at end of tank about 8 inches below surface.  PAR about 250 or so (almost all blue).  Still getting tank adjusted to the new lights so overall PAR a bit lower than I ultimately will run... oh well.

It's not the first measurement that matters, It's the LAST!  (I was trying to hold the tongs and ruler in the same hand, and cell phone with the other.  Oh well.)

So the plan is to just straighten out the ruler at the end and instant growth!  Hmmm.... not sure about this.
